I have 15 years of teaching experience which include a wide range of ages from kindergarten to seventh grade. I am certified in Elementary Education, grades K-6 (all subjects) and in Middle Grades Math Grades 5-9. I earned a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Florida International University in 1997. In 2000, I applied to graduate school and earned a Master's Degree in Urban Education with a focus on technology integration in 2003. In 2004, I earned National Board Certification in the area of Middle Childhood Generalist. Finally, in 2005, I returned to FIU one more time to pursue certification in Educational Leadership which I received in 2007.
As a classroom teacher, I believe it is important to teach concepts, rather than drill skills. I do not teach to the test. Teach for learning, then expose students to test taking strategies. My method has always proven successful. My students always succeed. I am skilled at understanding a student's learning style. There is no subject matter I cannot teach myself in order to help a student.
I offer three types of tutoring.
Homework help: This is for students who earn average grades but need the extra push or reinforcement with homework.
Remediation: This is for students who are not on grade level. They may have learning gaps that need to be closed. Improvement will not be reflected immediately in grade-level work. The first tutoring session will be dedicated to assessing the student for areas of weakness in order to target areas of instruction.
Test preparation: This is for students who need preparation for standardized and state exams.
