I played competitive baseball through high school and beyond. I was taught the game by my father, who played college and professional baseball, as well as by my grandfather, who is in the Oglethorpe University Athletic Hall of Fame as a baseball player. He also played professional baseball. He coached most of the players in the Atlanta area during his era, including Luke Appling, a Hall of Famer who stated the my grandfather taught him all he knew about baseball.
I have more than 30 years of mid- to senior-level management in national corporations as well as in government operations. I have attended numerous seminars and training programs in many areas. In October, 2012, I earned my Six Sigma Green Belt Certificate with a specialization in Financial Services from Villanova University.
With more than 30 years of experience in mid- to senior-level management in large national corporations as well as government operations, I have worked in numerous fields and industries. In addition to advancing my own career, I also motivated and developed the staff who reported to me, and helped them to attain higher positions of authority and responsibility.
As a Psychology major, I am well-versed in counseling techniques. Further, I am very familiar with college preparatory development, as well as counseling on the pitfalls college life, such as financial education and advice, time-management, study techniques, and other aspects of college life.
I have played golf and studied the rules of golf for more than 40 years.
For ten (10) years, while in county government, I used Outlook for all of my work-related e-mails. On average, I received more than 7,000 e-mails per year, and wrote, or responded to, a like number of e-mails each year.
I have been playing poker since the age of 5, when we had a family poker night each week. Additionally, a second cousin of mine (and his wife) are both top-ranked professional poker players.
During my many years of mid- to senior-level management experience, I have had the responsibility of speaking publicly to a wide variety of audiences. Additionally, I have taken numerous training courses and seminars in the art of public speaking.
I was raised in the Methodist Church from birth, and have attended both Methodist and Presbyterian Churches most of my life. I have learned about other forms of religion, including Catholicism, the Mormon faith, Church of Christ, Judaism, some about the Muslim faith, as well as others. I have read the Holy Bible in its entirety, and am currently studying its contents and performing daily devotionals.
I learned the game of soccer when I lived in Lima, Peru as a pre-teen. I continued to play soccer through high-school, playing on the Varsity squad my Sophomore through Senior years. I won the MVP trophy as a Senior.
I played baseball all through high school, and then started playing softball in college and beyond. I have played virtually every position, and all types of softball, from slow-pitch to modified-pitch, to fast-pitch. I used to play 4 nights a week, and then spend my weekends on a travel team, which came in 2nd place in the State Championships and qualified us for the National Championships.
I earned my BA in Psychology from Auburn University in 1979, which gave me a strong base for motivating individuals and learning Studying Skills. I have taken numerous training courses in Time-Management, which plays an integral role in Study Skills. I have presented and delivered numerous training programs to the staffs which I have managed. Through patience and perseverance, I was able to help all of the class participants to pass the final exams. Many times, this required one-on-one tutoring and counseling on the methods of studying and the discipline required.
