Academically, I have completed two bachelor's degrees, the first in Religious Studies, with a minor in Asian Studies, and the second in English, with an interdisciplinary certificate in Exile Studies. This fall, I will begin to undertake graduate study in English literature, rhetoric, and composition.
Professionally, I teach in the English Departments at a college preparatory institution in Miami, which is consistently ranked among the top fifty high schools in the nation. I am also an adjunct English professor at Miami Dade College. My responsibilities include the planning for, and the teaching of, 9th, 11th, and 12th grade students in English literature, college writing, with a particular emphasis on MLA protocols/essay writing, and creative writing, as well SAT and ACT preparation at the college level.
My English courses provide the unique opportunity to be introduced to a wide range of literatures and formal writing approaches. Literary genres include a survey approach to classical, medieval, early modern, British, and early American literature. Students' needs and talents are challenged, as the ability to think critically and analyze a number of literary texts is profoundly important. My classes include language arts and writing components, which encompass the development of oral and written principles. Correct usage, grammar, and sentence and paragraph study are presented in a gradual and measured sequence to ensure genuine learning. SAT and ACT preparation is also of major concern.
As a tutor with WyzAnt, I am particularly interested in working with students who seek to improve their writing skills, their reading comprehension skills for in-class and homework assignments, and for test (SAT/ACT) preparation. I am also very well prepared to work with students seeking college admission; my specific area of specialization here includes unique college essays, college interviews, and the financial aid process for those students wishing to study out-of-state and abroad.
