I offer to tutor you in Spanish: all ages, all levels. I'm a native speaker of Spanish from Cuba and Spain. I grew up speaking Spanish and to this day, it is the language of choice at home. More than just using Spanish en la vida cotidiana (or in everyday life), I am a lover of Spanish literature. I've read plenty of Iberian peninsular literature as well as a handful of Latin American. I graduated from Smith College where I completed a double-major in Comparative Literature and Spanish. With both majors, I became quite good at crossing between English and Spanish and recovering most of what is lost in translation. Thus, two of my goals in life are to help people cross that bridge between English and Spanish and improve their skills, confidence and love for the language. I also aspire to translate major works of literature someday. My experience tutoring Spanish started in high school and extended itself well into my college years. In college I tutored my friends as well as a few local high school students. I am confident that I have the experience and enthusiasm your struggle with Spanish deserves.
Also: My schedule is very flexible so let's work something out and help you master this beautiful language!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Like I said in my profile, I am a native speaker of Spanish from Spain and Cuba. In addition to knowing Spanish out of intuitiveness (as in: oh, that sentence is right because it just sounds right), I recognize the grammar and other building blocks of the language. I know the difference between good and bad Spanish and I can defend it. I am very savvy with the literature and cultures that emerge from the different countries that speak the language. Therefore, I can offer my student a bigger picture of the experiences that exist in the language. I love Spanish and Latin American theater and I can make this aspect part of our curriculum. It can be a very engaging activity that brings to the table dialog and feeling in Spanish. We can start with elementary plays and move on higher.
My experience tutoring Spanish dates back to my years in high school, where I tutored elementary students for the most part. In college, I helped my friends and a handful of local high school students.
In the end, the most convincing thing I can tell you is that I have a deep admiration for Spanish. It has been in my life since I uttered my first word and I've continued to make it a big part of my life and experiences. It's beautiful and it is a language that is spoken all over the world so it's absolutely worth it!
