Hello Potential Tutees,

My name is Janesha J., and I'm a current student at "The Unsinkable" Albany State University. I am a Freshmen, class of 2016 Nursing Major. I'm also a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant. I was in the National Honors Society and Future Educators of America, a tutoring and mentoring club, during high school.

I plan to tutor students of all ages in the subjects of Math (general Math up to College Algebra) and Science (Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, and Chemistry). Some areas of Medicine and Health are also considered upon request.

I have a lot of work experience as a teacher's assistant for ages 2-12 for 3 years. I currently assist classmates and colleagues.

I am very patient, flexible, and fun. My teaching style varies depending on the students learning style and subject. I favor teaching hands-on and using visualizations. I also make learning fun by playing games (Math). I enjoy helping others and passing on information I learned to others in need. What drives me to help other is seeing students that I have taught learn something new and understand what has been taught to them.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 teaches students linear and quadratic equations and how to graph them. During tutoring sessions students will learn to solve and graph equations and inequalities.
Work experience include teacher's assistant at a day-care/after school program and middle schoolers. I am very patient with my students, I stay on an area until they fully comprehend it. I make learning fun by adding some fun into the subjects to keep the interest of my students.

Algebra 2

Algebra II extends the content learned from Algebra I. Students will be introduced to polynomials, imaginary numbers, complex numbers, quadratic functions and eqautions.
I have worked with students from the ages of 2-15 years old as a teacher's assistant. I also assist peers and colleagues with various areas of Math including Algebra I, Algebra II, Pre-Calculus, Calculus and College Algebra.

Geometry

During Geometry tutoring I'll go over formulas for lengths, areas and volumes for several shapes, such as triangles, spheres, cylinders, rectangles, and more. Students will learn to solve for angles of triangles and length of sides using the Pythagorean theorem. We will learn terms like circumference, area, radius, and diameter of a circle, area of a triangle, volume of a cylinder, sphere, and a pyramid.

Prealgebra

Pre-Algebra is usually taken prior to Algebra I. The usage of graphs begin, and order of operations. Students will build on their existing knowledge of fractions by examining ratios, proportions and probability, and converting to/from decimals. Precalculus

Before taking Calculus a student must first take Pre-Calculus. In Pre-Calculus students will learn vocabulary such as cosine, sine, and tangent. Pre-Calculus covers evaluating polynomials, integrals, and finding derivatives. Students will learn to graph parabolas, and finding lines perpendicular and/or parallel to another line. Anatomy

Anatomy is the branch of science that deals with the structure of humans, animals, and other organisms. While taking Anatomy & Physiology Honors in high school I earned an A and in Anatomy & Physiology/A&P Lab in college I earned an A as well. I love science and willing to help anyone in need. I break down anatomical terms by pre-fix and suffix. Flash cards and repetition are my best friends in tutoring Science courses. I make it fun and easy to learn

Physiology

Physiology is a branch of science that deals with the functions and activities of living organisms. Basically Physiology explains exactly how something works. Physiology is closely related to Anatomy as it is mostly taken as one (Anatomy & Physiology). Elementary Math

Elementary Math deals with basic math concepts, such as adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing, word problems and geometry. Elementary Math also includes rounding decimals, fractions, converting between fractions, percents, and decimal. I enhance students learning by showing them various approaches to different math problems and formulas. I like to use concepts and ideas that fit an individual student's needs in order to help them understand how to solve problems.

Elementary Science

Students will be introduced to the nature of science. Students will learn how to effectively use the scientific method during experiments and even every-day life. Students will learn about matter, earth science, natural science. I worked with elementary students at an afterschool program. I helped them with homework and we also completed numerous of experiments.

Genetics

Genetics is the branch of Biology that deals with heredity, variations of inherited characteristics among similar or related organisms. During tutoring sessions students will learn about the father of genetics, they will learn the meaning homozygous, heterozygous, dominant, and recessive. Students will learn about inherited traits, and sex-linked traits. Students will also learn how to use the Punnett Square and cross numerous of traits.

The TEAS test is a standardized, multiple choice exam for students seeking to enter nursing school. Upon being accepted into a nursing program students must pass the TEAS test. Topics covered during the test are Math, English, Science, and Language. I am able to tutor students in all areas of the TEAS test. I myself have taken the test prior to entering LPN school and passed.
