Science/Math Tutor Specializing in Biology and Algebra

I have been an educator for over 15 years. I am certified in Florida and New York as a Biology / General Science teacher, but have extensive experience teaching an array of sciences such as Earth science, physics, ecology, and zoology, as well as maths including algebra and trigonometry.

I also have experience working with students one-on-one improving writing and reading comprehension, as well as FCAT prep for elementary, middle ans high school students. I am also open to working remotely with students, through Skype, email or phone. My schedule at this point is fairly flexible.
My philosophy is, given the proper tools, including nurturing, guidance and healthy self-esteem, anyone can develop a love for learning and be successful.

Proofreading

In addition to being a stickler for detail, I have had experience proofing text for a school textbook publishing company. I have also proofed science and math curricula as part of a curriculum writing team for NYC Dept. of Ed. as well as copyediting for various non-profit organizations.

Botany

I have a passion about plants. I not only studied botany in college but have studied herbs as part of a series of workshops. I have taught botany and gardening to children on St. Croix after studying with a local botanist while working for the Nature Conservancy. In addition, I worked for the Brooklyn Botanic Garden as a children's gardening instructor. For many years as part of the required Biology curriculum in New York, I have taught botany.

Nutrition

As a science teacher I have been required to teach nutrition as an important part of the curriculum. Specifically as part of preparation for NYS Regents tests, I was required to have extensive knowledge in this subject area. In addition, as a student midwife I have been required to study basic nutrition and nutrition for pregnant woman. As a part of my prenatal work, I must inform families about proper nutrition.

My general rate is $30. This shifts according to topic/ level. For instance, the rate for a college level course= $35. Algebra help for a middle school student: 25/hour.
