I love teaching and tutoring! I am a part-time tutor, an attorney, a non-profit professional, and a parent of three school-age children. Teaching and helping people to learn are among my passions. I have had a lifelong commitment to education.

My experiences in tutoring include ESOL, SAT, PSAT and LSAT tutoring in group and individual settings. I have very strong English language skills, with a BA and graduate studies in English. I am an accomplished writer and a voracious reader.

My philosophy regarding tutoring is to always be supportive and patient. The progress and pacing of the sessions are directly linked to the student's ability to grasp the material. With children, I also involve the parents in the process as much as possible to ensure that the skills and learning are reinforced.

The measure of my success is the student's increasing comfort level with whatever he or she finds most challenging. Ideally, he or she will become more interested in and intellectually curious about coursework as well. Achievement comes from confidence!

Vocabulary

The proper usage, the definition, and the derivation of words are infinitely fascinating and interesting. I enjoy sharing the excitement of word play with my students. Learning to properly and creatively use words makes everyone more effective in their jobs and in their lives.

Grammar

I am a veteran writer, proofreader, and editor with a keen ear and a genuine enthusiasm for language. I love teaching students about the intricacy and beauty of the English language. Well-spoken and well-written English are important and achievable skills. I enjoy the increasing comfort level and mastery exhibited by the student through the tutoring process.

Reading

I love to read and to inspire others, both adult and children, to read as well. Good reading skills is a strong indicator of success in life, in any field of endeavor. I am patient, supportive, and creative. Working together with the student, we can achieve success, comfort, and facility with the written word.

Spanish

I have studied Spanish since the 6th grade and continued through college. I am comfortable and reasonably fluent in Spanish, though not a native speaker. I enjoy the language and have opportunities to practice with colleagues and friends who are Latin. I have tutored a number of native Spanish speakers in various subjects.

Writing

I have been an avid writer and reader since childhood. My love of words led me to major in English at the University of Florida. During my college years, I enjoyed writing essays, term papers, and short stories. As a young lawyer, I mastered legal memoranda and appellate briefs. As my career evolved, I have had the chance to write press releases, op-eds, and legislation. I am a lifelong lover of language with strong writing skills, a large vocabulary, and a vocation for reading. I really enjoy helping students to improve their facility and comfort with written and spoken English. A great command of English improves communication, academic performance, and job prospects. It is truly a life skill that pays never-ending dividends.

Literature

A lifelong voracious reader, I majored in English to explore great books in depth and to learn how to write critical essays. I then began my Master's level studies with the intent of teaching. My interests run from the classics of American and English literature to contemporary world literature.

As an attorney LSAT tutoring is my specialty. I am an experienced LSAT tutor, I work with each student to maximize their understanding and facility with each of the sections. My efforts are directed at achieving a calm, confident, measured approach to the exam itself. Law

I have been an attorney for over two decades, a graduate of the University of Florida College of Law and admitted to practice in Florida. Additionally, I have tutored a number of students for the LSAT and for the Florida Bar examination. I have taught legal writing and clerked for the Third District Court of Appeal. I enjoy helping law students master their coursework and to become conversant with legal concepts.

GED

Working toward a GED is a wonderful goal and I support the student as she/he strives to achieve it. Facility and comfort with the subject areas are the needed skills combined with familiarity with the test format. I enjoy and have had success in tutoring all of the substantive parts of the test: Language Arts: Writing, Social Studies, Science, Language Arts: Reading, and Mathematics. SAT Writing

SAT writing is one of my favorite areas to tutor. I really enjoy teaching students how to recognize grammatical errors and how to correct them. SSAT

The SSAT is often the first standardized test a student takes which is used as the basis of admission to a school. It is very important to be well prepared for the subject matter itself as well for the student to be confidant in his/her ability to succeed. Mastery of the material is the key and this outcome is achieved through a blend of patient and consistent mentoring and tutoring. I am especially skilled with young children as a tutor and a mother of three myself.

ACT English

Performance on the ACT and SAT is an important part of the college acceptance formula. I have worked with several students to improve their speed and accuracy while achieving a greater comfort and facility with the tests. My special expertise is in the reading and writing sections. I really enjoy seeing the student succeed and gain confidence as the tutoring process moves forward toward his/her exam date.

Study Skills

I was an extremely successful student from my earliest years through my post-graduate education. I have counseled students at every grade level, including my own children, regarding best practices for studying and learning. I offer complete explanations, suggestions for memorizing, and outlining techniques. I am able to break down the complex and make the difficult understandable. No subject is too hard if the student can complement the teaching with effective studying.

I am an attorney and a non-profit professional who has routinely made arguments in court and speeches at meetings, conferences, and seminars.

Bar Exam

I have been an attorney for more than two decades and have tutored several third-year law students for the Florida Bar examination. I am a member of the Florida Bar and the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. I am a former judicial research assistant for Florida's Third District Court of Appeal.
