I am studying for a Bachelors in Science degree in Physics and Mathematics, with minors in Chemistry and English at FIU. I've always been "that guy" who helps fellow classmates study for tests, and I've been tutoring professionally since early 2010 both through the school system and independently. I'm tremendously satisfied with my job and not just because I enjoy the subjects, but also because it keeps me thinking about where I came from academically as I move on in my studies.

When I tutor, I go by the quote, "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." The goal is for the student to understand and to be able to solve problems in the subject without my help. The problem is that most of the time, the lower level math teachers don't get the students to understand the material, which leads to confusion in upper level courses. I've found that with a little review, people tend to improve their scores, and more importantly, their understanding, considerably.

Algebra 1

Algebra is far too often taught as a set of mysterious formulas. I call this the "black box" effect, because one cannot see inside a black box so one does not know how it works. Algebra 2

Algebra I and Algebra II are extremely similar with respect to the concepts involved. The problem most students have with Algebra II is that they memorized many of the tool and relations learned in Algebra I. This is a problem that persists through to Pre-Calculus, Calculus, and above! As a matter of fact, I still see this in many of the college students I tutor.

Physics

I've taken university Physics 1 and 2 with calculus (PHY2048 and PHY2049) and received the Physics Award in 2011 from Miami Dade College. I've taken Methods in Theoretical Physics, Modern Physics 1, and Thermodynamics at FIU.
This semester I will be taking Modern Physics 2, along with Solid State Physics (as far as physics goes) at FIU.

ASVAB

I got a 97% on the ASVAB, and spent 5 years in the US Army.

Guitar

I've been playing guitar for a little over 13 years now, and have studied jazz theory for a few years, and about a year of classical guitar. I continue to study music theory on my own.

Differential Equations

I've taken Differential Equations at MDC and Advanced Differential Equations at FIU.

Linear Algebra

I took Linear Algebra at FIU and received an A. More important than the grade, however, was the wide-spread use that I've seen since then. Linear Algebra really is the basis for Differential Equations, Calculus 3, and so much more in mathematics. Even Google uses Linear Algebra as the meat and potatoes of their search algorithm!
