Math and economics can be difficult - but they don't have to be. To understand them takes curiosity, a willingness to learn and a tutor who's ready to guide you through the maze.
I'm a young mathematician who loves teaching and knows that the secret to scoring high on the SAT, ACT and GRE isn't mindless memorization. It's all about understanding why something works the way it does, and appreciating how it can be applied.
The tedious drills taught by most high school teachers and college professors won't do, and this is something I've learned during my past four years tutoring students ages 14 to 45. It's been fun to watch them grow and learn, no matter what their level of education. My students include children from Glades Middle School, teens from Southwest and Palmetto high schools and young adults at FIU, UM and Miami-Dade College.
I'm about to finish my own B.S. in math at FIU, and I didn't get this far without cracking the code to success. And I love passing it along.
I took the standard discrete math course that covers sets, logic, relations, functions, combinatorics, and graph theory. I've also taken specialized courses in combinatorics, axiomatic set theory, graph theory, and number theory. I have then gained experience tutoring discrete mathematics by helping many computer science majors pass this required course. It is this experience that has helped me to develop my ways of explaining the various concepts contained in the course.
I have taken several courses in modern algebra. I earned an A in the standard linear algebra course that covers matrices, systems of linear equations and vector spaces. Following that I took two upper division courses in abstract algebra. The later of these courses covered modules over rings that are an extension of vector spaces. I have also tutored this course many times.
I've had a senior level mathematics course on first order mathematical logic that covered statement and quantifier logic as well as the notable metatheorems on completeness and consistency. I've also studied the philosophy of logic including theories of reference and meaning. And I have volunteered as a logic tutor for the philosophy department's introductory logic course.
