Hi, I am a creative, passionate teacher with 3 years of teaching experience and a master's degree in Educational Psychology. I am also a published writer, who majored in Creative Writing in college and received As on every paper I wrote for my Master's program! I have traveled extensively and am excited to help English Language Learners of all ages to improve their English skills.

My Philosophy on Tutoring and Teaching:

1. Good learning is like taking a journey to a new place.

How? Journeys are exciting, thought provoking and open our minds to new things. Learning that happens on a journey is joyful and meaningful. That's how I want my students to feel about their education.

2. An effective teacher uses creative lesson planning to engage students in learning.

When planning a tutoring lesson, I ask myself how to present the material in the most engaging way possible for that particular student. Students must be motivated and interested in learning before they can accomplish their best.

3. Students must have clear goals and manageable steps to make their learning goals come true.

As a traveler, I have found that creating an itinerary makes it more possible to do and see more things. After each tutoring session, I write a summary of the session and explain the next steps to success that we discussed in the lesson.

4. Satisfied students are successful students.

I will go above and beyond to ensure that you had a successful tutoring session by writing follow up emails and taking suggestions into account to constantly become a more effective tutor.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

As a certified elementary school teacher with a Colorado Professional Teaching License and a passion for teaching, I love helping children learn. Each child is different, and my first step in tutoring is to assess my students for academic ability while also finding out their key sources of motivation and interest. In my years as a tutor and teacher, I have helped kids love learning through studying subjects they find fascinating, engaging in meaningful learning through hands-on and arts-based activities, and utilizing technology such as iPads.

After each tutoring session, you will come away with a report from our lesson, including goals, strategies used, notes on your child, and ideas for the home. I also provide handouts that you can use throughout the week to help your child grow academically.

In the end, my goal is to help your child not only grow academically, but also to become a lifelong learner.

Contact me today so that we can start working together to bring your child to new levels of success!

English

I have been tutoring students in writing for 4 years. All of them have significantly improved their grades, and equally importantly, learned how good writing is structured and how to write well for the future.

I majored in writing in both high school and college, and also have a master's degree in Educational Psychology. As a writing tutor, I can combine 2 things I love: writing and teaching!

ESL/ESOL

I have taken 3 courses at University of Colorado at Denver on teaching English Language Learners. I have also taught ELLs for 3 years. I can help you or your child learn English.

Hebrew

Are you interested in learning Hebrew? Do you want your child to know the letters and sounds?

Hebrew can be a tricky subject to learn, and as an experienced teacher, I can help you and your children meet your Hebrew learning goals. I use an engaging, story-based Hebrew curriculum that helps students of all ages internalize the Hebrew letters. You will also utilize movement, music, and games to remember the letter sounds and advance to increasingly difficult levels of Hebrew learning while having fun at the same time!

Contact me today to learn how I can help bring your or your child's Hebrew learning to the next level!

Phonics

As an elementary school teacher, I taught phonics for 3 years, using the Secret Stories program. I have taught students in second and third grade phonics using different strategies, including games, word tiles, and phonics packets. Last year I led a once a week tutoring group after school, in which we practiced phonics and spelling.

Praxis

I took the Praxis test in 2007 and not only passed, but received a letter of recognition for my high score. I have tutored students in the math area of the elementary Praxis exam with great results! We used math Praxis prep materials and I showed students how to do the problems in a way that they could replicate on the exam.

Video Production

I majored in film in college, went to Cuba to document the streets of Havana for the Office of the Historian in 2004, and have taken a Standard Workshop and a Facilitator's Workshop at the Center for Digital Storytelling.

Writing

I have been writing since high school, where I majored in Creative Writing at Denver School of the Arts. Since then, I have worked at a number of publishing companies and earned a B.A. in Creative Writing at Hampshire College. In 2009 I completed my master's degree at the University of Colorado at Denver in Educational Psychology.

I love writing and I love teaching, so tutoring students in writing is an ideal job for me!

When I taught 3rd grade, my students were at all different stages of learning to read. Amazing Experience! — Working with Daniela has been an extremely positive experience. My son has gone from reluctantly reading and being intimated by chapter books, to finishing a book in only a few days. He has been averaging an hour a night and even reading at school during his free time! We used to struggle with reading the schools required 20 minutes a night and now I come home from work to see him reading, inst ...
