I am a certified teacher, and have been for over 25 years, teaching reading, language, math, and ESOL in an adult basic education program. I also help with study and organizational skills, as well as test preparation. I enjoy tutoring students of all ages, beginner to advanced. I prefer tutoring in an informal, comfortable setting, and have a lot of patience and empathy for those struggling with all or part of their school work.

I teach all elementary subjects, reading and language for the middle school, ESL, ESOL-TOEFL for children and adults, and adult literacy.

I welcome small groups as well as private students, but all work is always done on an individual basis. In other words, you will get the help you need. You do your part, I'll do mine, and the result will be SUCCESS!

My background check and fingerprints are on file with MDCPS.

Hope to see you soon!

Emphasis on Language Arts: reading, writing, and grammar as well as study skills and test
taking.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified teacher in the state of Florida, and have been teaching elementary subjects, reading, language, math, social studies, and ESOL for over 25 years.

English

I have taught English and English for Speakers of other Languages for many years. Learn the proper way to speak and write English by learning and understanding the rules of grammar, and then applying them.

ESL/ESOL

I have spent many years as a certified teacher teaching and tutoring various levels of ESOL to children as well as adults.

Grammar

In order to speak and write the English language correctly, rules of grammar must be learned and then applied. You will be shown how the parts of speech, subjects and predicates, and a variety of other things(like punctuation),when used correctly, all work together to form correct and complete sentences necessary for proper speech and writing.

Reading

Reading for enjoyment, work, or study relies on comprehension (understanding what you read). For this to work, one must learn not only vocabulary (the meaning of words), but what the words mean in context (as used in the sentence or paragraph)since so many words have more than one meaning.

SAT Reading

Emphasis on critical reading skills, vocabulary (words in context), comprehension.

SAT Writing

Emphasis on rules of grammar, sentence structure, vocabulary, organization of ideas.

Study Skills

Organization, attention to details are all important in developing study skills. I have helped many students over the years in developing study habits that work for them.

TOEFL

Emphasis on vocabulary, reading comprehension, grammar usage, pronunciation, and critical listening skills.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary consists of words and their meaning(s). The larger your vocabulary, the
greater understanding you have of what you are reading. The use of synonyms, antonyms, and homonyms, for example expand your vocabulary and help with reading and writing as well.

Writing

Writing relies heavily on your knowledge of vocabulary and the rules of grammar. You know the words, now you must put them in the proper form to write the words correctly, and put them in the proper order to form complete sentences. You will learn different forms of writing such as letters (friendly and business)essays, short stories etc., and their rules.
