As a current high school Algebra I/II teacher I have a firm grasp on the kind of work students are doing in the classroom which allows me to quickly understand what a student struggles with and how they can become better analytical thinkers. I have taught classes in Algebra I/II, Geometry and ACT Prep Mathematics. As a tutor, I like to find out how students learn best (visual, audio, hands-on) and work with the student to use their learning style to help them master content. Previous students of mine (both in the classroom and one on one tutoring students) have learned to think strategically about math in a way they haven't before and built skills that have lasted beyond my time working with them. In the past, students I have tutored have had significant gains of up to 70% on test and classroom grades. Any student willing to try can learn with the right tutor.
I am interested in helping students by working with them on an individual basis so that they can get the one on one help they need. I am currently certified to teach mathematics grades 6-12. Having taught in Miami, Oklahoma, Connecticut, and now Massachusetts, I've seen how different state systems approach education and have taken the best of each system I've worked in along the way. My tutoring style is student-driven, meaning that they student will be the one to work through their own struggles with me as a guide. This allows my students to more quickly work their way to being able to complete their homework, study and take tests independently and understand whatever pitfalls they had, moving forward.
