Hello. My name is Shanka and I am looking forward to helping students improve their skills in navigating the English language. I say "navigating" because English is such a complex, complicated,amazing language, full of expressions and words borrowed from other languages, with fascinating word roots, histories, syntaxes, and multiple meanings and usages of many words and metaphors. But enough of praising English, more about me! I LOVE English! I enjoy teaching this language via personal anecdotes and great jokes: I believe if one can understand the humor in a language, then one gets the culture, the background, the flavor of the people reading, writing and speaking in it. I embrace my students and make us a family rather than just classmates. There is no competitiveness when I teach; there is no cut-throat competition, nor any putting down, laughing at, or ridiculing someone for their possible mistakes...though I will often laugh at my own errors and I will try to make the learning environment as enjoyable and fun as possible. I'm looking forward to meeting up with you and starting the greatest game of all~ learning!
