I am a certified English teacher with 8 years of experience teaching and tutoring at the high school and university levels.

I currently teach Advanced Placement Language and Composition, Honors British Literature, and Honors English at a private high school. My students consistently score well above the national average on their AP exams.

As an adjunct faculty member at Embry Riddle University, I teach courses such as English Composition, Studies in Rhetorical Theory, Business Communication, Technical Writing, and American Literature.

ACT English

I currently teach English at the high school and university levels. I also teach and tutor students in preparation for the ACT exam. I know what students need to know in order to be successful on this important examination.

ACT Reading

I have been teaching high school Honors and Advanced Placement English for eight years. Helping my students prepare for the ACT Reading test is a key part of my curriculum. I ensure students understand each possible question type, that they learn effective strategies to help them with the time constraints, and that they practice with multiple sample questions.

Adobe Photoshop

Trained high school and university teacher and journalist with experience using Photoshop, PageMaker, QuarkExpress, and other desktop publishing applications.

Desktop Publishing

With more than ten years of experience working on newspapers and creating newsletters, I can teach the basic skills required in page layout and design. Factors such as element layout, editing and placing photos, and font selection and usage are critical regardless of which software you use. I can help you to create professional-looking documents suitable for a wide variety of purposes.

I have owned Macintosh computers since 1988, so I am familiar with the Mac operating system and how it has developed over many years. I am also very familiar with using both Macintosh and Windows-based operating systems and transferring files between them.

I have been using Microsoft Excel for 15 years. I use it both at work and at home. I am also knowledgeable at using Excel to track and sum columns.

Microsoft PowerPoint

PowerPoint is the most used and abused software we have today. I will teach the importance of good slide design, font selection, photo and graphic placement, transitions, and slideshows. Equally important, I will also teach how to present a slideshow professionally and effectively. PowerPoint is a fantastic tool, but only in the hands of professionals who know how to use it.
I have 15 years of experience with PowerPoint, and I can teach you to communicate more effectively with it.

Microsoft Word

I have been using Microsoft Word for 20 years. As both a journalist and English teacher, I have experience with all aspects of Microsoft Word. I have deep knowledge of using Microsoft Word to layout newsletters and resumes, setting up tables, selection and use of fonts, inserting and editing images, and using the Track Changes feature to provide clear feedback.


I worked for several years as a journalist and took photographs along with writing articles. My photographs included live action shots and still images. I can teach people to manage the basic camera settings they need to be able to capture clear, attractive images. I am also experienced working with and editing digital images to improve sharpness and contrast. I can also teach people how to effectively use camera flashes to achieve good images in various lighting conditions.


I have been a journalist, and university and high school English teacher for 15 years. As a journalist, I wrote articles and supervised a newspaper staff, where my primary role was revising and proofreading articles. As a teacher, one of my most important duties is proofreading my students' papers and providing clear feedback to help them become more effective writers.

Public Speaking

I currently teach Public Speaking at a highly-ranked private high school. I also have 8 years of experience as an Air Force public affairs specialist where I regularly spoke in front of national and international media representatives and various public groups. In addition, I have attended a Comunispond executive presentation skills class.


We have to communicate each day. Whether at work, in school, or at home, we must be able to write effectively. With practice and instruction, everyone can become a better writer. I can teach the key elements of writing: focus, organization, support, and editing.
