Hey, students and parents, so you know my personality? I won the only teacher superlative this year "most likely to be a teenager." We will have fun but at the same time learn math! I got my passion for teaching while a Naval Instructor teaching Naval Academy and ROTC graduates. I taught them trigonometry for ship handling. What a blast to see the lights go on in the eyes of students when they get it! I went into the Navy Reserves in 1984 and retired in 1998. Once I was in the Naval Reserves I spent 24 years involved in the stock market as a VP of Investments to a portfolio manager. In 2009 I decided to obtain my math certification and begin to teach math. I currently have my Middle School certification for the State of Florida and am working on my High School certification. I spent about one year substituting and tutoring math. During the 2010-2011 school year I taught Precalculus, Geometry and Prealgebra at a private military school. During the 2011-2012 I taught Precalculus, Algebra II and College Algebra. This summer I would like to focus on tutoring and completing my High School certification. I truly love teaching and focus on hands-on problem solving during my tutoring sessions. I will teach the basic concepts and allow the student as much time to complete as many problems as necessary until the student can teach me the concept. I look forward to teaching, learning and having fun with you!!
The main goal of this course is to provide students with a thorough and extensive study of linear and quadratic functions and graphing on the x/y-coordinate system. By the end of this course, students will have all the knowledge necessary to solve and graph equations and inequalities. They will also be able to apply this knowledge to other areas of math, such as word problems, ratios and proportions.
The course starts off with a quick review of basic algebraic concepts, such as variables, order of operations, exponents and problem solving skills. They will gain a thorough introduction to functions, the basis of all of algebra and higher mathematics, such as calculus. Students will learn how to solve linear equations, including multistep equations, equations with multiple variables and equations involving decimals, as well as write a linear equation based on the graph of a line. The course also gives the students a thorough introduction of functions and quadratic equations. They will learn all the operations associated with the two, such as factoring and graphing. The end of the course takes the students’ knowledge of algebra 1 one step further by introducing them to some basic concepts of geometry.
The skills learned in this course will help the student through school work, and will provide a thorough algebraic background for all standardized testing, including the NJASK, HSPA, PSAT and the SAT.
Commander G seems to know how to speak and listen to young adults — Inspite of it being such a short time Commander G has been tutoring our son for ASVAB, it has been a positive experience so far. He seems to be patient, listens well to the student, and knows how to use real life examples to help the student understand it better. I appreciate that commander gest is punctual and calls me if he is running late. Commander G assures us that from what he sees from our ...
