You came looking for a tutor because there is a subject that is just not clicking for you or your child. Have you ever thought that maybe there was another way of looking at it or maybe a little more one-on-one would help you to grasp the concepts?
My approach is that we first start by speaking with the one another and get an idea of what you already understand. I will then find out where you would like to improve the most. Then by listening to the explanation I can take the subject or subjects that you are having difficulty with and explain it to them in terms to help you to better understand.
My most recent example is my friend’s middle school daughter who could not understand the mathematics of converting and multiplying percents to decimals then to fractions. She and I went through her homework together, when she would make a mistake I would stop her and I would explain why that wasn’t right and help reinforce the correct way. Her mother came to me 2 days later and expressed her gratitude that I gave the time to help her and that she really understood it now.
I am currently a student at Palm Beach State College. I have been helping students, family, and friends for over 10 years grasp ideas that just were not "clicking".
