Eric's Answer:

Sir,

This forum is not meant for religious debates. However, this question can be boiled down to the concept of presuppositions. If you desire to get involved in that, I recommend "Van Til's Apologetic," by Dr. Greg Bahsen, which clarifies the philosophical concepts of presuppositions throughout the philosophical world.

Thus, the complexity of this question is not due to the question itself. It is due to the primary presupposition you find yourself with: "1) Naturalism, 2) Supernaturalism, 3) What branch of 1 or 2 do I hold to?"

It gets even worse when I add to the mix the different branchs of Naturalism which have to be addressed.

In sum, before this question is answered the person asking it needs to be challenged about their presuppositional foundation.

Eric's Answer:

Ronnira,

If it is the same in NJ as in CA and FL, it should be in the back of the text book. Some only have the odd numbered problem answers. Others have the even numbered problem answers. Since I am not familiar with NJ standards, I will recommend a more general workbook which is found in Amazon.com:

http://www.amazon.com/Math-Made-Easy-Fifth-Workbook/dp/0789457415/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1353965334&sr=1-1&keywords=5th+grade+math

I hope that helps you!

How to use Distributive Property to solve these problem? NEED HELP

Asked by Dina from Chicago, IL

Eric's Answer:

Greetings Dina!

You asked for assitance with the example you gave "8x(10+5)= n"

I added  the N because it makes it more simpler direction. So let us continue.

8x(10+5)= n

The 8x is a number in of itself. The 10 is multiplied by it. Also, the 5 is multiplied by it.

Let us see it broken down:

10(8x) + 5(8x) = n

Each number in the parentheses is mulitplied by 8x

80x + 40x = n

Add like terms

120x = n

This is your answer.

I had to interpolate your question with N in order to show you step by step.

It is similar to to the FOIL method - although you don't use (a+b) (c+d) = y because your only using 8x.

If you want to know more about about the Distributive Property, see this link:

http://www.mathwarehouse.com/dictionary/D-words/distributive-property-definition-and-examples.php

Although I don't recommend wikipedia for much, it explains FOIL pretty well:

Does this help?
