About Kasey

I am a recent graduate of West Virginia University with a degree in political science and a minor in history. History, government and politics are just some of the things I am passionate about, and I'd love to help you with any of these subjects. I am currently in school to obtain another degree in child development in hopes of becoming a pre-kindergarten teacher. While attending West Virginia University, I took many classes that dealt with politics, ranging from Ancient Greek to modern day law and politics, and also history, ranging from the start of Western Civilization to modern day events. I am a researcher, and if there is anything that you need help with that I do not know fully I will take the time to research the topic and will be able to explain it to you to help your needs.

The past four years I have worked at a daycare in Maryland that ranged in ages of six weeks to 12 years. During those four years I helped out a lot in the School Age room, teaching summer programs and helping with homework during the school year. I have learned that many students learn in different ways and I can help you to learn in whichever way works for you. If you need help just for a test, a couple sessions, or the whole school year I am here to help! As I have worked with all age groups and grade levels, there isn't a class that I won't be able to help you with. I'd love for the opportunity to work with you and help you get that "A"! As I have worked with all age groups and grade levels, there isn't a class that I won't be able to help you with.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

American History

I believe I am qualified to tutor in American History. I am a recent graduate from West Virginia University and my minor is History. History is one of my many educational passions and while attending school I took several extra classes. I have taken History 153, which is the Making of Modern America: 1865-Present; Political Science 102, which is Introduction to American Government (also contained American History); History 453, which is about the Civil War and the Reconstruction; and History 445, the History of American Women course that covers American women in the United States' history.

Biology

In 2013 I graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science and with this Liberal Arts degree I was required to take several courses that were outside my field of study. Many of these classes were Biology and Psychology (I find that certain psychology courses take on a sort of biological nature as you are learning about different abnormalities). Some of these courses include Biology 101, which is a general biology course that is taken with the lab Biology 103, Psychology 101, which is general psychology where we learned about the neuron transmitters and how they function, and Psychology 281, which was abnormal psychology which shows how the body functions and how it runs when there are abnormalities or disorders. These are just a few of the courses I have taken along with three years of advanced biology in high school, I believe meet the requirements for tutoring biology.

Elementary (K-6th)

The past four years, I have worked with elementary school children back East in Maryland. I've worked with these children in reading, writing, math, and reading comprehension. I am also currently enrolled in Liberty University online and am working on getting my Master's in Elementary Education.

European History

Again, History was my Minor when I attended West Virginia University. Many of the History classes overlapped, for example if we were taking an American History course, we would learn about events that the United States was involved in that would also involve many other European countries. Also, political courses, as that was my major, would also discuss how European governments changed overtime and how these events affected that country's history. Some of the courses I took were History 209 (History of 20th Century Europe), History 418 (Eastern Europe Since 1945), Political Science 363 (International Political Economy- the topics we mainly discussed were history in nature and were mainly about Europe), and Political Science 368 (Politics of War and Peace- which, again, was mainly a history class that focused on war and peace times in Europe.)

Government & Politics

I have a BA in political science with a minor in history from West Virginia University Many of the history classes overlapped my political science courses, for example if we were taking an American history course, we would learn about events that the United States was involved in that would also involve many other European countries. my political courses would also discuss how English and European governments changed overtime. Some of the courses I took were History 209 (History of 20th Century Europe), History 418 (Eastern Europe Since 1945), Political Science 363 (International Political Economy), Political Science 102 (Introduction to American government), and Political Science 368 (Politics of War and Peace). These are just a few of the courses that I have taken to qualify myself for the tutoring of government and politics.

Social Studies

From my understanding, Social Studies incorporates many aspects of our society. It brings together anthropology, psychology, politics and government, history, and sociology, all of which I have taken numerous classes on. My degree is in Political Science with a minor in History. A Political Science degree is also known as a Liberal Arts degree and to obtain that degree a student must take, and are encouraged to take, many classes as possible that not only deal with politics and government, but also, other classes that pertain to our community and the world around us. The classes I have taken are Psychology 101 and Sociology 101, which are the introductory courses on these subjects; Art History 101, which is about the appreciation of visual arts; Education 100, which is an introduction to elementary education; Geography 102, knowledge of world regions; History 153, the making of Modern America from 1865 to the present; Sociology 105, the introductory course to anthropology; Sociology 199, orientation to Sociology and Anthropology; Political Science 102, which was about American government and how it was formed and how it has progressed; History 453, which was about the Civil War and the Reconstruction period; History 445, the history of American Women; Political Science 357, Comparative Law and Politics- this class compared many different governments and law types in many different countries; History 101, which covered Antiquity to about the 1600s; and Communications 308, which was all about nonverbal communication and how this affects our daily communication. These are just some of the courses that I have taken thus far that deal with Social Studies and this is why I believe that I am qualified to be able to tutor in the subject matter.

World History

History was my Minor when I attended West Virginia University. Many of the History classes overlapped my Political Science courses that I took for my BA of Political Science. Some of the courses I took were History 209 (History of 20th Century Europe), History 418 (Eastern Europe Since 1945), Political Science 363 (International Political Economy- the topics we mainly discussed were history in nature and were mainly about Europe), History 101 (History of Western Civilization through Antiquity),and Political Science 368 (Politics of War and Peace- which, again, was mainly a history class that focused on war and peace times around the world). These are just a few of the 140 hours I needed to complete my degree.
