Hello! I have been tutoring off-and-on for seven years. As a tutor of Language and History, my number one priority is the student. I understand that learning will seldom take place if the student is uncomfortable with the overall learning experience. This discomfort may be caused by a lack of confidence in the specific subject matter, an inability to communicate their academic needs to their instructor, upsetting past experiences that involved school and learning, or a lack of knowledge regarding their abilities, talents, and learner preferences.
It is my mission to help students experience academic success and also to assist them with personal growth and increased self efficacy. I enjoy interacting with my students and getting to know who they are as individuals, but my greatest pleasure is seeing them progress into a better version of the person and student that they already are. Learning can and SHOULD be fun. I am here to make it that way!
I based my methods largely on the students' preferences. That is why I spend a large part of my first session getting acquainted with the student. I incorporate exercises and topics that interest the students, in order to help the student feel more excited and more comfortable with the content. I also believe in rewarding students for their success as opposed to penalizing them for their mistakes.
