A seasoned Marine Biologist knows how you feel! Most students start well but fall behind as the coursework increases. It’s not for lack of effort; it’s just that classroom settings don’t work for everyone. It is for this reason quality tutoring is so effective! I've been helping students of all ages for more than 30 years and have found one method does not necessarily work for everyone. Because of this, I offer customized tutoring sessions designed for each student.
My teaching methods are a culmination of formal education and decades of practical work experience in the biological and natural sciences. My experience in education includes university level teaching assistantships for senior level Marine Biology and undergraduate Biology courses, tutoring High School Biology, as well as Math and English for Elementary School students. Additional experience includes employment as a professional note-taker for the University of Hawaii, as well as, conducting public education programs (“Floating Classrooms”) with the National Park Service. Recently, I served as a Sea Turtle Biologist capturing, tagging and monitoring sea turtle populations along the Florida coastline. This position also included participation in marine science education and public outreach programs, as well as, deployment for sea turtle monitoring sea turtle populations during the BP Gulf Oil Spill.
I graduated with high honors while earning two degrees in the marine sciences. My first was a Bachelor's in Marine Science from the University of Hawaii and the second, a Master's in Marine Biology from the Florida Institute of Technology. My thesis for both degrees focused upon the description and statistical analysis of coral reef fishes surrounding the Island of Hawaii. My success in these endeavors required an extensive knowledge of Mathematics Statistics, Ecology and Marine Biology. I led AAUS dive teams to gather the necessary data, as well as, developed the scientific design, computer databases, and statistical analysis. My academic efforts culminated in scientific and community presentations of the findings.
I have found tutoring to be a team effort requiring the cooperation and participation of the tutor, student, and parents.Finding the right tutor is essential to the student's success, and that is why I give every student the first-hour FREE. We spend this first consultation discussing the specific needs of the student and developing an action plan on how to accomplish those goals.
I can help you do better in school!! Because I personalize my tutoring sessions, availability is limited. So if you want to do better at school, contact me now to reserve your slot!
Biostatistics can be defined as the application of statistical analysis to topics in Biology. Biostatistics is especially important in the analysis of data related to fisheries.
My undergraduate and graduate thesis topics focused upon the population dynamics of important reef fishes surrounding the Island of Hawaii. This topic is heavily dependent upon statistics for the comparison of densities between locations over time.
I have become very comfortable with statistics while working on these projects, as well as, the completion of numerous classes in biostatistics and multivariate analysis.
Don't hesitate to contact me as I look forward to the opportunity to assist in the analysis or coursework of students in these subjects.
While working toward my Bachelors and Master's degrees in Marine Science and Marine Biology, I was required to master the use of Microsoft Windows and the many programs contained within.
I utilized Excel and Access for databases, Word and PowerPoint for my thesis and presentations. In addition, I utilized Paint to customize images. Since my graduation, I have continued to utilize Microsoft Windows for professional and personal projects.
I look forward to passing on the knowledge of computer systems that I have gained, and making things easier for students, so they can get on with the business of learning!!
I was termed a non-traditional student when I returned to academia to attain a degree in Biology at the age of 50. One of the most difficult aspects to returning to school was the reestablishment of good study habits.
I became very successful and graduated with honors in both my Bachelor's and Master's degrees. I owe a great deal of my success to learning the advantages of exceptional study habits. I am a firm believer that a student does not have to be the smartest one but can succeed by working hard.
I look forward to working with students to pass on the insight I have gained in the importance of exceptional study habits.
My earliest experiences with swimming were not good to say the least. Since those early years I became a competitive water polo player, SCUBA diving instructor, and now swim almost daily off Miami Beach.
I have come to love swimming as not only great exercise, but also calming for the mind and soul. I have many years of experience teaching swimming including the local pool as a teenager and raising my two children at the beaches of Hawaii and Florida.
I can say I was the first of many to participate in the awesome sport of water polo. It all began in California when my surfer friends convinced me to try out for the high school squad. I was instantly hooked and ended up playing for three years in high school and one year in junior college.
My love of water polo was handed down to numerous generations as my nephew, niece, and grandniece followed in my footsteps to play on the same high school team.
I would welcome the opportunity to pass on my generational knowledge regarding this wonderful sport.

Great tutor! Very responsive, reliable, and effective! — Although I only had contact with Jeff through email, I was very impressed with his responsiveness and patience. Jeff worked with my grandson, and I can say that through reports from my son and grandson, Jeff was great to work with. He introduced tools and study methods that were new and effective. From a low D in Biology, my grandson's final biology test score was 89! Quite a difference. I would n ...
