Having over 17 years' experience, I have taught students of all ages in various settings, which means elementary, middle and high schools, language schools, tutoring and adult education. I earned my Master of Education in Teaching English Language an Literature in Hungary (University of Pannonia, university program, 5 yrs) but according to Josef Silny and Associates, it is the equivalent of the US degree of Master of Science in Teaching English as a Second Language.
My primary focus is on ESOL/ESL but thanks to my qualifications I am able to tutor English Language (grammar, Language Arts, vocabulary, speaking/conversation, writing, listening and reading) and English and American Literature.
I am Hungarian, this is my mother tongue but I can speak and write German and French, too. I can also help students with learning strategies and cursive writing. In my experience, it is very useful and practical that as a foreigner I have a different point of view, and I use different teaching methods when helping students.
I am a very open person, kind and patient, an enthusiastic teacher but I am pro-improvement, therefore I expect my students to want to learn. In my views successful learning is the result of our cooperation. I look forward to learning and cooperating with my future students.
I have a Master of Education degree in Teaching English Language and Literature, which is the equivalent of the US degree of Master of Science in Teaching English as a Second Language.
Moreover, I have been teaching adults for over 17 years, both in my native country, Hungary, from 1997 to 2013, and at Miami-Dade College North Campus (School of Continuing Education) for the past year. I teach immigrants here in the US, many of whom are struggling because they are illiterate; therefore I often have to teach them how to write before I can teach them English.
Additionally, I have been teaching my stepdaughter how to do cursive writing with great success (her school does not teach them cursive writing).
I am from Hungary, so Hungarian is my mother tongue. Before I immigrated to the US, I was required to teach Hungarian to speakers of other languages because NATO established a military airbase in my hometown, and there was great demand for learning Hungarian. What is more, Hungarian education is very strict and thorough, and schoolchildren are required to learn a great deal of grammar at school. I was given very strong grammar skills in my country.
I have a Master of Education degree in Teaching English Language and Literature (my studies included Literature, Phonetics, Phonology, Linguistics, History, Methodology, just to mention a few subjects), which is the equivalent of the US degree of Master of Science in Teaching English as a Second Language (ESOL, grammar, vocabulary, listening, speaking, writing, reading, etc.); therefore, my qualifications enable me to tutor Phonics. I wrote my degree on Canadian English, and a part was dedicated to phonological phenomena.
Phonics goes with teaching English or ESOL; it cannot be skipped.
When I worked as an ESOL teacher in my native country, Hungary, teachers had to do everything themselves, including advising their students about learning strategies to help them improve their grades. There were no school employees to do this for the teachers. Schools often organized trainings for us focused on study skills, and we were expected to apply their relevant knowledge in class.
I learned a lot in those trainings, and I have 17 years of experience in classroom education, language courses and one-on-one tutoring. I know what I am doing.
