When I sit in class and see how students stare at the white board with the look of confusion and sometimes discouragement, I see myself at one point. Afraid to raise my hand and ask the teacher, the thousand and one questions I have on my mind about the problem or lesson that is being explained. In a tutoring session with me, I hope to create an atmosphere where you feel comfortable to ask all the questions that you have on your mind. That’s a goal I strive for with the students I mentor in the area of art as well as math.
I first determine your learning style, so that I can understand how it is you comprehend the subject matter because we all think and comprehend things differently. From there along with helping you with your homework or reviewing tests and quizzes, I help you learn and even research skills that fit to your needs. There are so many amazing resources out there that students do not take advantage of. Tutors will not always be there to hold your hand so it is important that you know how to help yourself.
I have exhibited in the Fort Lauderdale museum of art and attended Savannah College of Art and Design. Currently I am a graphic designer for companies and local businesses all while attaining my degree in mathematics education. To some math and art are two completely different worlds, but little are aware of how much those worlds often collide. For example, my knowledge in Calculus helped me with the design of some products for a hair line.
Recently I worked with K-5 students which are more difficult to teach than I originally thought, but as my patience and understanding of the art of teaching grew, the way I reacted with the students improved and the response was amazing; particularly with the autistic students.
I hope to hear from you soon, do not hesitate to send an email my way.
Algebra 1 is the foundation to all future math courses and for some it may be necessary for your career of choice. It is important that a student masters success in the areas of problem solving, graphing and solving linear and quadratic functions, exponents, and solving systems of equations. Most importantly, any individual venturing into the world of math must master basic function notation. As you progress into upper levels of mathematics you will see that notation is more important than the actual correct answer but always strive for both.
I remember first learning algebra myself and how confusing it seemed, but with a little practice and studying, I have acquired the knowledge to succeed in this area with ease. I constantly practice and study my algebra (including terminology) to keep my mind fresh.
While in high school I was enrolled in the AP Art Program and completed 2 years of drawing along with the program. I continued my education in drawing at Savannah College of Art and Design. I have also exhibited work in different shows, one being the AP art exhibit at Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art which only chose a select few from the entire county. To date I continue to do murals design for small businesses and nonprofits, while mentoring other students who are pursuing their passion in the arts.
I am currently pursuing my degree in Mathematics Education and while doing so I am required to Intern at schools learning pedagogy, the art of teaching. In effort to do so I have been working with students in the K-6th grade levels in all subjects. From subject specific to FCAT prep.
Also with being a math education major I am required to have basic knowledge of mathematics in order to successfully complete higher levels of math.
Pre-Algebra is the basis of algebra. Here is where you will compile all the necessary skills to succeed in Algebra 1 and later Algebra 2. Pre-Algebra, with advanced computation, continues the study of fractions, decimals, percents, positive and negative integers, and rational numbers. Students are also further advance into ratios, proportions, and algebraic equations.
Word problems are a big part of Algebra and will also play role as you continue your studies in math. I was once an individual who loathed them but I have come to love them. Word Problems are nothing but scrambled up jigsaw puzzles that have to put be pieced together. Some people bypass mastering word problems and find it difficult to complete them in maths such as Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus. So I encourage you to understand it now rather than face the difficulty later.
