The ACT math section comprises 60 questions to be done within 1-hour. The key is knowing the facts in pre-algebra, algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry, and doing some critical thinking, to use all the information that you are given, even when the information is in the answer choices.
Algebra 1, for most students, is the first year of math in high school. We need Algebra 1 because there are many things in life that we do not know. Algebra 1 teaches you how to find the unknown, which we usually represent by 'x', or 'y' or some other letter, by using other information that is given to you.
Example: Given that 3x = 18, what is the value of x? You divide both sides by 3, and the result is x = 6.
Not to be confused with the focus of Trigonometry, Algebra II is geared to solving mathematical problems focused on equations and inequalities, algebraically or graphically.
My Science degree from Concordia University was with a Major in applied math. One of the areas of application was statistics for the sciences, which addressed the topics of experimental design, clinical trials, cross correlations between phenomena; and the inferences based on the tests of hypotheses pertaining to genes, cross breading, hybrids, and the predisposition to particular traits in offspring based on traits in the parents.
I have practical experience in teaching students of Biostatistics how to ensure the appropriateness of experimental design; understanding the language of statistics; the choice of tests and the inferences that can be made based on test of hypotheses; and the importance of the power of an experiment, or its sensitivity to detect a real effect of independent variables in an experiment.
Calculus is a branch of mathematics focused on limits, functions, derivatives, integrals, and infinite series, with two major branches - differential and integral calculus.
Remember the equation for the slope of a straight line: m = (change in y)/(change in x), usually a constant. Well calculus takes into consideration that not all lines are straight, and part of the capability of calculus is to work with the slope of any line: dy/dx, calculated at any point on the line.
At the very foundation, Differential Equations are used to figure out the resultant change in a dependent variable, as the result of change in an independent variable of which the former is a function.
With a Major in Math and Economics, I have been tutoring students in differential equations for the past 12 years. During that time I have successfully helped many students prepare for their AP Calculus (AB and BC) exams.

My first cycle degree, BSc - Math/Economics, positioned me to influence students' perception of the usefulness and applicability of math, and Discrete Math helped me to do just that. That is the experience, passion and focus that I make available to students.
Elementary math is focused on introducing students to the basic operations - addition, subtraction, division and multiplication - and helping them to master these skill that are needed to handle the other levels of math.

The GRE is a test which is required for admission to many universities in the US. It has been recently changed to a computer-adaptive test which checks for proficiency in math, interpretation of charts and graphs, vocabulary in-context, and reasoning.
I am qualified to tutor ISEE because I have extensive experience tutoring students who are in private and independent schools. I have tutored ISEE in other settings and with other institutions/training centers. I also tutor other tests such as SSAT at this same level, and the PERT college prep course.
Linear Algebra is about very practical application of mathematics. It is a view of the many discrete applications in our reality.
As a professor of applied math at Concordia University, I taught math for the decision sciences. Among the courses taught were subjects focused heavily on deterministic methods. So it is that Linear Algebra figured heavily in my undertakings.
Since I taught with the departments of management and business, in the Commerce Faculty, Linear Algebra was used in game theory which really governs decision making in competitive environments, risk taking, and investment - all of which use matrices and vectors in approaching solutions to problems.
Linear Algebra was also used to solve production problems - resource allocation, profitability - and figures heavily in the management sciences, through linear programming.
Prealgebra by its very name is self explanatory. It equips the student with the tools necessary to handle algebra.
It helps the student to better understand, work with and solve equations involving the operations of addition and subtraction. As such they learn the natural number system, integers, fractions, decimals, negative numbers, factorization of natural numbers, simple roots and powers, and the associative and distributive properties of addition / subtraction.
Prealgebra may also contain some simple geometry as an application of variable manipulation as it pertains to area and volume.
Probability speaks about the likelihood of an event taking place. Each outcome of any given event is assigned a value of zero through 1. Each likely outcome of an experiment is assigned a probability value such that the sum of the probabilities of all the outcomes total one.
Examples of outcomes whose simple probabilities are equal:
1. Flipping a coin: - P(H) = P(T) = 1/2
2. Rolling a die: - P(1) = P(2) = P(3) = P(4) = P(5) = P(6) = 1/6
All students interested in being considered for the National Merit List, should make the PSAT a must. The new configuration of this preliminary standardized test is also an excellent means of familiarizing students with the SAT, though no upper level math is required.
I earned a ThD degree from Grace Theological Seminary in 2007, and I am currently pursuing a PhD in interdisciplinary studies with a concentration in Instructional Design and Curriculum Development.

The SAT standardized test is really a critical thinking test, using math as the basis for testing your thinking.
It pre-supposes that you have been exposed to a certain body of material: Arithmetic-type material, Algebra I, Geometry, and Algebra II. It's not about working long and hard, but really about being alert and working smart.
From my many years of experience tutoring the SSAT I have come to realize that the test prep is most useful in filling any gaps due to the differences in curricula from school to school.
Private school may be a wonderful alternative - and sometimes necessary alternative - to the public school system. However, when it's time to go off to Secondary level - even within the same private school system - there must be a standardized means to determine admission. The SSAT does just that.
The test consists of a short essay and multiple choice aptitude questions. The aptitude testing concentrates on math, reading comprehension and the use of language.
I taught statistics at university level. Among the various fields in which Statistics can be applied, I dealt with Gaming theory that is at the foundation of decision making and risk taking in business and economics. I have also taught Bio-statistics, Statistics for the Social Sciences, as well as Operations Research which uses Statistics the optimize solutions to complex problems, for example, Queuing and Waiting Time, and Total Quality Management.
If you understand that a^2 + b^2 = c^2, where c is the hypotenuse of a right-triangle, and 'a', 'b' are the legs, then you are well on your way to understanding that sin^2(x) + cos^2(x) = 1 where 1 is the measure of the radius in the unit circle.
My mantra over the years in teaching Trigonometry has been this, "If you are kind and learn to love Pythagoras, he will be kind and not abandon you in Trigonometry."
Trigonometry is math that deals with triangles. It explores relationships between angles that are associated with triangles.
Whether you do trigonometry at high school or college level, you will be introduced to and acquire knowledge about the sides and angles of plane or spherical triangles, and calculations based on them.
