Greetings Parents and Students:

I am an education enthusiast who loves to be in the center of learning experiences as a teacher and as a student. I have been a substitute teacher (grades k-12) for eight years. I have an Associate's degree in Music Performance and I am currently working on my Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

I've been a private tutor for 2 years now. I would be happy to engage any age range of potential students in areas like vocal training, basic music reading, elementary piano, theater acting/auditioning, reading, standard writing, creative writing, elementary education (all subjects), studying, organization, and/or life skills.

The areas of study I offer include but are not limited to these subjects. Feel free to inquire if you do not see a subject you may need assistance in, and I will be happy to assist you in getting on the right path.

Thank you.

Elementary (K-6th)

For eight years I have been fortunate enough to substitute teach for Broward and Duval counties. This opportunity has allowed me to develop organizational, facilitator, and instructional skills. My experience as a teacher has benefited the way I impart knowledge because of the opportunities I've had to assist other professional teachers of grades K-12 and to supervise and implement classroom lesson plans. I also have experience with preparing for assessment tests such as FCAT and ESL at the elementary level. I am creatively capable of assisting my students with being organized, studious, and enthused about the early stages of their education.

Music History

Music history studies the composition In theory and refers to the study of the history of any type or genre of music. Music history is also inclusive of cultural studies, which I have studied at Florida A&M University in classes like African American History, English History, and Art History. While at Florida A&M University I sang and studied genres ranging from baroque, classical, jazz, gospel, spirituals, and theater. I was a member of the University's Concert Choir for three years. I also studied individual voice and the significance of genres in their perspective cultures.

I earned my Associates Degree in Music Performance at Cuesta College. At Cuesta I studied music theory, history, and performance (etiquette). I was also a member of two choral ensembles while there.

I am a local musician and have been a member of many bands and choirs - this allows me to do independent studies of past and present musicology. Music is my passion and I am always excited to study and surround myself with it.

Public Speaking

Throughout grade school and college I have had the opportunity to present many public speaking presentations. College is where I learned the most and mastered speaking in front of a group. I earned an A in my college Public Speaking course at Florida A&M University. Also, while at FAMU I was awarded the title of Miss Emerald - which gave me responsibilities for representing the University and its Progressive Black Men Organization. Miss Emerald was among the many pageants that I participated in and won that required me to participate in formal elocution.

I have also been a member of various local and collegiate theater programs throughout college and my professional life which have strengthened my verbal presentation and preparedness skills. I am currently an active actor in theater arts. Public speaking is something that I am excited and passionate about.

Social Studies

I am currently a college student. So far I have successfully completed cultural, historical, political science, psychology, religious, art, and sociology classes. These college courses, including the required humanity and mathematics courses I have had to take, have allowed me to explore sociology from historical, cultural, economic, and political perspectives; helping me to develop skills and the ability to make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as a citizen of a culturally diverse, democratic society. With these skills I can assist students by promoting their civic competence and encouraging the students to “assume the office of citizen.” (Thomas Jefferson). My experiences as a student and citizen have broadened my world view and I am able to use information I learn to evaluate and contribute to society. I have also been a team member for national and local campaign teams. I have been a student volunteer since high school for various local and collegiate organizations and programs. I am currently an active substitute teacher for all subjects including social studies, political science, and history for grades K-12. I am also familiar with the National Council for the Social Studies.

I am qualified to tutor or assist in song writing because I have recorded and written my own material and have assisted other artists with their writing. I have a creative background. I earned my Associate's Degree studying music performance at a college that encouraged creative individuality. I have studied under jazz artist like Inga Swearingen, Ike Woods, and John Knutson (of Vocalogy).

Study Skills

I am a successful college graduate. Over the years I have learned many study techniques that have assisted me with preparing for tests, research, presentations, time management, note taking, etc. I am also currently a substitute teacher for grades K-12. This job allows me to explore the different success tools and methods that are appropriate to each age group.

I've always been a lover of the arts and I have been performing locally since I was fifteen years old. I have been a member of many musical and theatrical ensembles while a student at Florida A&M University. I studied Music Performance at Cuesta College (CA) where I received my Associate's Degree. While studying at Cuesta I did perform and study with the college's Interact Theater. While at Cuesta our studies focused on the Stanislavski system.

We also studied a variety of body movement styles: modern dance, beginner's ballet, and butoh movement. I have also had the opportunity to attend many acting workshops over the past three years. I have been able to perform with local theater companies such as: Studio of Performing Arts (SOPA - CA), Moving4ward Productions, Exposing the Truth, Inc. I am currently a working actor.

I played high school (Hallandale High 97-2000) and college intramural (Florida A&M University 2000-2003) volleyball while a student at Florida A&M University. I learned to play volleyball because I was told that it would help me be a better basketball player. The coach of my high school volleyball team was also the coach of the varsity boys basketball team. Knowing that some of us players were also on the girls basketball team we had an intensive workout which included a technical understanding of the game. I've played team sports since the age of 10.
