I am a fully bilingual professional. I have a Masters Degree in Aeronautical Science with a specialization in Space Operations. I am skilled in math, sciences and languages. I have worked with students of all ages from elementary school to graduate school, to working professionals. I have always been successful in helping students overcome their challenges in the subjects I tutor. The important thing when working with a student is to determine the current level of understanding of the subject at hand, establish goals and provide constant feedback. A manageable plan for success will be established on an ongoing basis.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

For those interested in the Mathematics test for ACT, it is based on three subscores spread out over six content areas: These include pre-algebra, elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry. I will evaluate the student and determine where the strengths and areas of help are required.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1 includes but is not limited to properties of exponents, square roots, evaluation of algebraic expressions through substitution, using variables to express functional relationships, understanding algebraic operations, graphing and the solution of quadratic equations by factoring. It also includes knowing how to set up and solve word problems.

Geometry

Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the shape of individual objects, spatial relationships among various objects, angles and the properties of surrounding space. It is one of the oldest branches of mathematics, having arisen in response to such practical problems as those found in surveying. I am versed in all forms of geometry. These include euclidean, analytical, projective, differential, non-euclidean and topology forms of geometry.

SAT Math

SAT covers general math, algebra I, geometry and the first semester of Algebra II. The College Board gives general guideline and breakdown the test as follows:
Numbers and operations (20–25%)
Algebra and functions (35–40%)
Geometry and measurement (25–30%)
Data analysis, statistics, and probability (10–15%)
The standard SAT math exam has 54 questions:
25-minute section with 20 questions: all questions are Multiple-Choice.
25-minute section with 18 questions: 8 Multiple-Choice and 10 Grid-Ins.
20-minute section with 16 questions: all questions are Multiple-Choice.
While all aspects of math are important, you only need to concentrate on these areas for doing well on the exam.

SSAT

The SSAT is the Secondary School Admission Test that measures the reading, math, and verbal ability of applicants to private and independent high schools. The SSAT is given for two levels:

Lower (for students currently in grades 5 - 7)

Upper (for students currently in grades 8 - 11)

There will be a writing sample (essay writing)

This will includes one topic statement which you will be asked to support or argue, using specific examples from personal experience, current events, history or literature. This essay is not scored by the SSAT but duplicated and sent to each school as a sample of the ability of the student to express his/her self.

Quantitative (Math)
Consists of two sections of multiple-choice questions. The student will be required to do math computations that include word problems and number problems.

Verbal
Consists of synonym and analogy multiple-choice questions.

Reading Comprehension
Includes multiple-choice questions based on several reading passages. These questions measure the students ability to read quickly and demonstrate the comprehension level.
