Dear Student,

My passion and dedication is to create an environment for people to bring out the best in themselves. I graduated with honors in Engineering and Mathematics. I pursued the technical, sales and marketing aspects of business and was very successful in growing various companies in the areas of computers and import/export. During my career I mentored and developed many of the associates and derived a very rewarding experience. My tutoring experience in Spanish, Mathematics and Computers showed me how people can grow in all areas of their lives irrespective of the obstacles perceived. This resulted in students always achieving their goals in a fun and positive manner.

This led me to volunteer in a self-expression and leadership program that helped change people's lives. The approach was to empower people to create their own possibilities and achieve them in a concise, precise manner without a disempowering approach. Besides teaching and tutoring I became the head coach for this self expression and leadership program for over 10 years. Would you allow me the opportunity to help?

Sincerely,

Abe G.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The math portion of the ACT test is 60 questions to be done within 60 minutes. The subjects and % of each included are; Pre Algebra (23%)/ Elementary Algebra (17%) = 40%

The next section is Intermediate Algebra (15%)/ Coordinate Geometry (15) = 30%

The last action Plane Geometry (23%)/ Trigonometry (7%)

The total adds to 100%

The tutoring will follow a review with typical questions for each of the six subjects, putting as much time and effort to the % that they represent in the test.

The pace will be adapted to how the student responds to each part.

The student will be totally prepared for the test and will take feeling confident and with a winning attitude, which is as important as the knowledge he will have.

Algebra 1

Having been selected to the Math Honorary Society and taken concurrent courses, which were prerequisites from one to the other, allowed me to acquire the knowledge.
Applying that knowledge effectively by being empowering, and into the person’s listening, creates the opening for the student to see it as fun and breaking the existing barriers.
Once this is created, the student will advance rapidly and proudly.

Algebra 2

Having been selected to the Math Honorary Society and taken concurrent courses, which were prerequisites from one to the other, allowed me to acquire the knowledge.
Applying that knowledge effectively by being empowering, and into the person’s listening, creates the opening for the student to see it as fun and breaking the existing barriers.
The methodology used is one of logical understanding as opposed to exclusive memorization. The student will understand the meaning of the problem and will reason the solutions to them, building up their confidence. Once this is created, the student will advance rapidly and proudly.

ASVAB

The ASVAB test stands for Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Test. It is an English only multiple choice test that has 10 components, 4 (Word Knowledge, Paragraph Comprehension, Arithmetic Reasoning, Mathematics Knowledge) are combined to compute and determine the eligibility for enlistment in the Army, Navy, Air Force or Marine Corps. The scores determine which branch will be best suited for the applicant.

There are other aptitude, likes and dislikes that are available to determine where you would be more effective.

To prepare for the ASVAB is really just a review of up to to the 10th grade equivalent of Math, some simple algebra, comprehension and science.

The score range from 1-99 and is a comparative range with other people having taken the test before. The other people ages range between 18-23 years old. The scores have a 2 year validity.

Sample testing will be provided to evaluate student readiness to take this test.

Elementary (K-6th)

My wife and I have had 4 children and we now have 4 grandchildren, all of which have been tutored at one time or another by me. The 2 youngest ones are 6 year olds. In total I have been able to tutor 60+ children. I found that I am the best with children from second to sixth grade.

Elementary Math

Math can be fun to all ages. My experience has taught me that empowering students and being in their listening opens the necessary doors to not be afraid and "enjoy" the game.

I thrive in seeing people of all ages feel fulfilled and smiling at their accomplishments.

ESL/ESOL

I was born and raised in a Spanish speaking country.

I came to the USA without speaking English at age 16.

I was able to graduate from the University of Miami at age 20 and taught a graduate course at 22.

I can also converse in other languages and have taught English to Spanish people as a group and vice versa.

Naci en Cuba y vine a los Estados Unidos cuando tenia 16 años. No hablaba Ingles.

General Computer

Graduated BSEE and Math minor at the University of Miami. Elected to Engineering and Math honorary societies. Spent 20 years in the computer industry in programming, management, director of marketing and sales. Consulted and tutored computing for students and companies.
Love to see people achieve their potential while empowering them and creating their own possibilities for achievement.

Geometry

I have been tutoring Mathematics including Geometry for 20+ years.

Geometry is the one Math subject that actually can be visualized and my teaching method reflects that. People retain close to 80% visually as oppose to the other senses.

I was chosen to the Math Honor Society.

My passion is helping others understand those things and subjects that are giving them problems, by explaining it in their listening and empowering them.

Most important I am a people person.

An evaluation of the base knowledge will be casually conducted and the shortcomings fixed before the specific tutoring takes place.

Hebrew

In my native country I attended and graduated from an elementary and high school that taught Spanish in the morning and Hebrew in the afternoon. I can converse in 8 languages and have taught Spanish, English and Hebrew for many years using the same basic principle of firstly making sure they can read in that language, then write what they read and teach them what they do not know. Once this step is complete we begin teaching them how to speak in that language with basic conversation and using visual aides, since 80+ % of what we retained comes from what we see. This is the same method that the State of Israel uses to teach new immigrants.

Marketing

Having been Director of Marketing and President/CEO for computer and import/export companies for a number of years, as well as Consulting Marketing and Management for several companies, has provided me with the experience, know how and different approaches to paving the way to success.
Principles such as “you cannot motivate people, you can only create an environment in which people motivate themselves”, “people do things for their reasons, not yours”, “the largest % of retention comes from only one sense which is the vision” are some basic principles of many that are taught.
Allow me the opportunity to share them with you. Teaching is my passion.

Microsoft Excel

I believe that Excel is the most powerful and easiest to use tool for organizing, record keeping, planning, budgeting, running a business and your personal life. It provides a quick, easy to understand view of the past and allows you to forecast as well.

It is fun and easy to learn. Lets try it.

Microsoft Windows

I have been a Microsoft Windows user and tutor since their release.

I have tutored individuals, groups and companies for all those years using a unique approach of letiing the student "play" while doing some pertinent exercises that relate to their job, work or interest.

I use it for a consulting company.

As an example with Excel, the cells are related to a home address and once the student knows that the we ask them to insert values and start using all the available features provided by Excel. They will visually see the results immediately.

The visual approach to teaching Microsoft Windows is for the student to visally play with all the features since 87% of what we retain comes the the visual sense. That combined with the fact that they are doing it themselves (with supervision)is very effective and empowering.

Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word provides a set of very simple and useful tools for letters, documents, flyers, brochures, forms and a great variety of other applications. One could also paste objects, charts, etc. from other applications.

Easy to learn and fun to play with.

Poker

I played various games for 30+ years.

I love Texas Hold them and play it both online and at casinos on weekends. Tournaments are also fun.

Math, logic and psychology are an integral part of the game.

My lifetime achievement is a 73% winning rate.

The methodology used includes how to play tight and/or loose including which cards to open , call raise or fold; what to do before and after the flop, after the turn and after the river.

Preflop and river bets as the relate to your cards, the ones that are shown and other players bets, are most critical.

Tutoring will cover all those points with examples, live cards and approximate probabilities considering how many "out" exist.

You will have fun and become a better player.

Prealgebra

The teaching method used is based on avoiding memorization as much as possible and logically understanding and visualizing what is being asked for.

Once this is created, the student will advance rapidly and proudly.

I know how to relate with younger people and love to do so.

Public Speaking

My passion and dedication is to create an environment for people to bring out the best in themselves. I have tutored and consulted with many people and companies. This led me to volunteer in a self-expression and leadership program that helped change people's lives. The approach was to empower people to create their own possibilities and achieve them in a concise, precise manner without a disempowering approach. Besides teaching and tutoring, I became the head coach for this self expression and leadership program for over 10 years.

You would lose all apprehensions and become a great speaker.
Would you allow me the opportunity to help?

Reading

Close to 80% of everything we retain comes from the vision sense.
Reading is extremely important and has to be viewed as a logical interpretation of what the contents express.
In our teaching we include the segmenting information (divide and conquer) approach if it is not clear on the first pass.
This is the same approach I have personally used throughout my studies and career with great effectiveness.
Please allow me to help the student get over the fear and apprehension which unnecessarily clouds the issue.

Spanish

Native language.
My passion and dedication is to create an environment for people to bring out the best in themselves. My tutoring experience in Spanish, Mathematics and Computers show me how people can grow in all areas of their lives irrespective of the obstacles perceived. This resulted in students always achieving their goals in a fun and positive manner.

Use a unique combination in teaching the language, the entire time all communications are done in Spanish and only Spanish with visual aides such as object and actions. People retain close to 90% from the visual sense.

Proven methodology used in countries like Israel and others.

Would you allow me the opportunity to help?

Study Skills

Study skills typically have to do with interest, concentration and dedication, unless there is other medical diagnosis involved.

By guiding the student to comprehend the essence of what is involved and focusing on the important part of what the subject matter is and teaching them how to accomplish that, the skills will improve tremendously.

Once they realize that they will automatically be in that mode and the skills will improve dramatically.

A student evaluation for specific subjects should be done by the tutor. A chart is generated which applies to any subject and they include the following observations of the particular student:
Concentration/Memory
Notes and their organization
Testing state of mind, attitude and apprehensions
Motivation
Processing information
and most important Finding the Main Idea.

Although this applies to all subjects, in arithmetic the main idea of multiplication of 2 numbers can be equated as a "shortcut" for addition, i.e. 3 X 5= 3+3+3+3+3 or 5+5+5 =15
I have been tutoring since Middle School to family members, fellow students and friends.

When I came to this country with $5 to my name, at age 16 I spoke no English, entered the University of Miami and besides a student loan my expenses were paid by tutoring students in Math, Science and other subjects.

Some of the specific accomplishments were students that hated and did not understand Math became Accountants; students that were tutored in Chemistry today are Lab Research Directors for the largest generic medications company in the world.

I am very proud of those two in particular since they are my stepdaughters.

The principles used (like the main idea) applies to all the subjects and the approach is basically the same for all.
