Hello everyone! I would like to introduce myself as your prospective Voice/Music tutor and to share some of my bio with you:
Caroline is a versatile singer and vocal instructor who has been performing since she was five years old. As a native New Yorker, Caroline had the good fortune to be exposed to live performance at an early age, attending Carnegie Hall, the Metropolitan Opera and many Broadway productions. During her childhood, she studied dance and musical theatre, where she had the opportunity to perform in various productions in Miami, Florida and to sing before well-known celebrities such as Jerry Lewis and pantomime artist, Yakov Noy. She began formal vocal instruction at the age of 16.
Caroline completed her undergraduate degree at Eckerd College where she studied classical, sacred and oratorio music and performed the role of Lucy in Menotti's operetta, The Telephone, and the title role in Douglas Moore's opera, The Ballad of Baby Doe. Her experience as a former member of the Tampa Bay Opera Chorus and The Tampa Bay and South Florida Master Chorales was life changing and helped deepen her teaching techniques. Performance highlights include Puccini's La Boheme under the direction of Dame Beverly Sills, Brahms's Eine Deutsche Requiem, Beethoven's Ninth Symphony, Orff's Carmina Burana, and sold-out performances and live recording of Mahler's Eighth Symphony, under the baton of Maestro,Robert Shaw, with the Atlanta & Ohio State Symphony Orchestras and Chorales, Atlanta Boys Choir and eminent guest soloists. Her repertoire includes opera, oratorio, musical theatre and sacred music.
As a freelance soprano, Caroline has served as a cantor and guest soloist in churches throughout the Archdiocese of Miami, especially during the Advent and Holy Week Seasons. In 1999, she traveled to Vatican City on a pilgrimage to sing for his Holiness, Pope John Paul II, at the Beatification Mass in St. Peter’s Basilica. She has also appeared as a soloist for the Fine Arts Series at St. Mary’s Cathedral and St. John Neumann Church.
Caroline's experience as a certified music teacher and private vocal coach spans over 18 years, incorporating theatrics, a hands-on approach, and a touch of comedy along with solid vocal technique to engage and maintain her students' attention.
She is a state-certified teacher in 3 disciplines: Music, K-12, Special Education, K-12 and Elementary General Education, K-6. Besides music, her love of tutoring encompasses language arts and grammar, beginning Spanish, ESOL, and theatre.
A curious learner and teacher by nature, Caroline prides herself in finding a unique connection and establishing a trusting rapport with her students and tailoring her teaching methods to meet each student's personal needs.
Over the past 20 years, I have served a wide range of students including special needs students with varying exceptionalities including Autism Spectrum Disorders ranging from the low to high ends of the spectrum, including Aspergers syndrome. I have worked on a daily basis as a Special Education teacher with students with Autism collaborating with the General Ed teacher in every subject area, working on a one-to-one basis assisting as needed. I have used music and visual aids, such as those from the Boardmaker program, a widely used visual aid tool for these students.
First and foremost, I have been a singer my whole life and have excellent pitch. I have studied ear training with the Solfege (solfeo de solfeo) method, a traditional scale method used all over the world utilizing the do, re, mi, fa, sol, la, ti, pitch symbols. I have prepared school choruses for the sight reading portion of choral festivals for many years as a music teacher. I have incorporated ear training in my private voice lessons for years.
I am state-certified in elementary general education, K-6 which covers this category.
State-certified in Music K-12, I have spent the past 20 years teaching students of all ages the fundamentals of music, such as: rhythm, melody, form, dynamics and tempo, harmony, theory and music appreciation. Additionally, I have served as a chorus director and private voice instructor in my home studio.
I especially love working one-on-one and seeing the growth in aspiring young singers.
Singing is my first passion, and I would love to share my knowledge and passion with you!
I am a certified Elem Ed K-6 teacher with additional certifications in Special Education which encompasses all subject areas, including penmanship, or cursive handwriting. Personally, I learned cursive writing young and taught both of my own children to reinforce their cursive writing lessons in school, which were unfortunately, limited. Handwriting has almost become a thing of the past, but for me, I stress the importance of beautiful, legible handwriting any chance I get with all of my students.
I am certified in Elementary Education, K-6 which would qualify me to teach phonics. I recently completed my first Reading endorsement course which included many lessons in phonological awareness including phonemic awareness and phonics. Phonics is the study of letter and sound recognition combined vs phonological, or sound only recognition.
I have been a singer my whole life and have learned and taught sight singing as part of my years of choral teaching and personal training. Most recently, I worked with the Miami Choral Academy where sight singing was an integral part of the students' music theory training utilizing the solfege do-re-mi-fa-sol-la-ti scale terminology used in many parts of the world. In my home studio, I use traditional solfege books to strengthen sight-reading for private voice students.
I am a state-certified Special Education teacher and have taught special needs students for over 20 years, both in the music and general classroom, most recently, in my last position as teacher for special needs for a homebound/hospitalized program in Dade County.
I graduated HS as a Musical Theatre major and have performed in plays since the age of 12. I was a thespian in HS and competed on the state level, winning several superior awards for monologues and scenes. Mother is a noted playwright and theatre major, so it's in the blood.
I am a state-certified music teacher K-12. My Bachelor's degree is in Vocal performance. I have coached private voice students for over 15 years.
