All of Stephen’s current tutoring subjects are listed at the left. You can read more about Stephen’s qualifications in specific subjects below.

Algebra 1

I can be of help in this subject area creating example problems and showing methods to build understanding.

Subjects areas include solving polynomials for the roots; equations for lines, parabolas, hyperbolas, circles, etc. Help with understanding graphs and word problems.

Algebra 2

I can be of great help in this subject area creating example problems, showing methods to help understanding.

Subjects areas include solving polynomials for the roots; equations for lines, parabolas, hyperbolas, circles, etc.

Calculus

Pre-Calculus, Calculus I, II, III are subject areas that I can help with. The understanding of Limits leading up to the definition of the derivative are critical to understand the basics of the Calculus. Later using derivatives to solve word problems including rates and some analytical geometry. Integral Calculus comes later using that to calculate areas and solve problems involving Newtonian physics. Calculus III involves multiple integrals and three dimensional vector calculus for those students pursuing Science and Engineering degrees.

Chemistry

This is a brief outline of the subjects that are encountered with Introduction to Chemistry. There are more but this should provide an idea of the type of help that can be provided.

Atomic number = Number of Protons
Mass number = Number of Protons + Neutrons
Atomic weight = grams per mole
Isotope = element w/neutrons different from average
Avagadro’s number = number of finite pieces / mole
Avagadro’s number = 6.02x1023
Atomic mass = weight in atomic mass units
1 proton = 1.0073 amu
1 neutron = 1.0082 amu
Molecular weight = sum of amu in a molecule
Formula weight = sum of grams / mole
Empirical formula = ratio of atoms in molecule
Molecular formule = Precise number of atoms in molecule

Balancing Chemical Equations
Finding chemical formulas
Stoichiometry
Gas Laws

Differential Equations

I studied Differential equations as both Math courses as well as analysis courses in Electrical Engineering. I am most familiar with LaPlace transform method of solving linear equations. There are a lot of "tricks" involved that mathematicians have devised over the years and it takes practice to use them. I can help you solve problems creating examples for later reference.

Electrical Engineering

I was a register professional engineer in Missouri. I can help you with basic circuit analysis and other EE problems

GRE

I am not an expert at the GRE exam. However I am skilled with mathematical subjects and writing and analysis. If you are searching for a collaborator in preparation for the GRE, I would be a good choice.

Microsoft Project

Microsoft Project ... I have used MSP for many professional projects over the years including factory relocations, new product introductions and capital improvement projects. I find it best used by starting out with the team to define the work elements gaining agreement on timing amount of work required. Project is very handy for keeping track of issues and communicating both to the next level of management and to the team members. It can be as simple or as complicated as desired. The Gantt and Pert chart options are nice too giving easy ways to determine critical paths for different options.

Physics

Physics is really a broad subject covering the laws of motion through the basic nature of matter. I am experienced and knowledgeable in:

Newtonian physics, the laws of motion defined originally by Isaac Newton including the 1st, 2nd and 3rd laws covering Ballistics, Statics, Dynamics, Impulse & Momentum and, Fluid mechanics.

Forces due to electric and magnetic fields including the work of Coulomb, Maxwell, Faraday and others. I am very familiar with electric circuits and the quantitative analysis associated with them.

Public Speaking

I have spoken in front of many large groups in business covering subjects ranging from process improvement through quality improvement and business performance. I typically used a technique taught me that would developed originally for Sales representatives but it's application is much wider. Basically it begins with

1) a "Ho-hum" crasher or introductory line to gain or focus attention of the audience
2) a "Why bring that up" explanation further helps focus the group on the topic
3) a "Tell em" section delivers the details of the message
4) a "Tell em what you told em" section repeats the message but in a different way
5) a "Closing" summarizes the message and leaves the audience wanting more

Statistics

I studied Statistics both in College and as a part of Industry training to implement statistical methods of quality control and assessment. I have a TI-84 calculator and can help students use that device to make lists, draw graphs, calculate probabilities, develop regressions, use normal curve, calculate Z-Scores and Histograms.

Trigonometry

I have knowledge of the following trigonometric functions: Sine, Cosine, Tangent, Cotangent, Secant, Cosecant. I also excel at geometric problem solving.

Approved Subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet certified in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
