I am an experienced educator with over thirty five years teaching and administrative experience in Florida schools. I have a Masters Degree in Reading K through Twelve, a BA in Elementary Education with certification in Early Childhood, and a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership. Most of my career has been spent successfully remediating reading with students two or more years below their grade level in skills. I have taught all grades kindergarten through fifth in the classroom and in special pullout classes and successfully tutored kindergarten through college level students. I currently am subbing in classes at kindergarten through twelfth grade.

As well as reading and writing skills I can help students acquire the study skills necessary to become successful in elementary, middle, high school, and college classes. I tutor all subjects kindergarten through 8th grade and Reading at all levels. I prefer to tutor Math through eighth grade level only but have assisted high school and college level students in basic Math. Difficulties in Social Studies and Science in Middle School and High School are often the result of poor reading or study skills. I can help with these. I can also assist in preparation for GED and SAT testing and in test taking skills at all levels. I have experience and success in working with Learning Disabled students.

My approach in working with all students is to formally evaluate their reading level and try to learn their learning styles. I need to learn about a student's interests as well. As we work together I try to teach to learning strengths and strengthen the weaknesses to maximize progress. Studying about a student's areas of interest helps make learning enjoyable. I like to obtain permission to communicate with teachers of my students to tap their knowledge of the student and make him or her more successful at school. I can work with materials the student is using in class or provide my own to supplement or strengthen skills. Games with students through middle school level are used to break the rigors of one on one instruction and build skills in a fun manner. With all learning in all subjects, learning how to learn and enjoying it are requisite to positive results. Together my students and I achieve this.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADD/ADHD

I took a course in this during my Master's Degree in Reading. I have had many in-service classes in this area as well. I have had many of these students in my classes over thirty five years and done much successful teaching and tutoring with them.

American History

I began college with a major in Political Science and Education wanting to teach government and US History in high school. After many of the courses I decided to switch to teaching elementary aged students and completed my BA in Elementary Education. I interned and began teaching in fifth grade due to my love of US History. My Masters Degree in Reading Kindergarten through Twelfth grade makes me particularly qualified to assist students with reading deficits improve their reading skills within a subject area. US History and Government as well as Reading are my career long passions and therefore are easy for me to inspire students in because of my appreciation of their importance to good citizenship and life skills for any career.

Elementary (K-6th)

I received a BA from Florida Atlantic University in 1969 in Elementary Education 1-6 with certification in Early Childhood.
I received an MEd from Florida Atlantic University in 1979 in Reading K-12.
I received an Education Specialist credential from Florida Atlantic University in 1988 in Educational Leadership.
I hold a current Florida Teaching Certificate with certification in Elementary 1-6, Early Childhood, Reading K-12, and Administration and Supervision with an ESOL Endorsement from the Florida Dept. of Education.

I have 34 years' experience with Broward County Public Schools and 1 year of experience with Lake County Public Schools. I am currently employed as a substitute for Lake County Public Schools (2008-present).

I spent 17 years teaching Kindergarten and the rest of my career teaching in each of the grades one through five, both in the classroom and in special pull-out remediation classes for reading and math. I have successfully tutored many students in all subjects, kindergarten through eighth grade. I have received training in working with gifted, SLD, ADD, and ADHD students. I have been successful with these special needs students in both my classrooms and in tutoring. My patience and willingness to try multiple teaching methods with each student until he or she finds success helps my students to gain confidence in themselves and improve skills.

Elementary Math

I am a thirty-five-year veteran teacher certified k-6. I spent the majority of my career remediating Title I students in math and reading. If you want something different than ordinary teaching, call on me to help motivate your student in math.

As both a Primary Specialist and an Assistant Principal, I have also taught classroom teachers by in-servicing them to do this. I have tutored middle and high school level students as well. I motivate acquisition of good writing skills with good examples of written work in literature of many genres and magazines and periodicals of student interests.
