One definition of superhero that I found during bar prep was that a superhero is "an exceptionally skillful or successful person". I couldn't find a better description of what every student who fights their way through the perils and dangers of bar prep are. So I dubbed myself a Bar Exam Superhero, even going as far as to wear t-shirts showing my motto during the exam.

I graduated law school in December 2012 from Florida A & M University College of Law with honors and with what little sanity I had left. I went into bar prep less than one week after finals. On April 15, 2013, I found out that I successfully passed the bar exam on the first try and the rest is history.

Beyond that, I've worked in various positions from Appeals Specialist for a government subcontractor to being a Disney Cast Member. But in every company I did the same thing eventually: I was a trainer.

This passion to teach and pass my knowledge on to friends and co-workers never dissipated during law school where I was a tutor and ran my own tutoring program. My desire to help only increased during bar prep when I realized how important it was for me to share my experiences with others.

I don't believe in lying to students and I don't believe in hiding from my feelings. Call it stupidity, call it a lack of self-confidence, but it is who I am. And I hope it benefits you as I will hold nothing back from you and I will be as honest with you about the law school experience as I can be.

American History

Understanding American History is critical to being a good law student and lawyer. Many cases are tied to events that occurred during the history of our country. Therefore, during law school, I studied not just law but history. Also, history has always been a passion of mine. I have always taken an interest in the subject, reading as much on history as possible, visiting museums, and organizing programs during law school about events throughout history and what we can learn from them such as how Holocaust history relates to profiling issues in today's society.

Bar Exam

I graduated law school in December 2012 from Florida A & M University College of Law with honors. I passed the February 2013 Florida Bar Exam with a 156 on the MBE and a 148 on the Florida section.

Beyond that, I've worked in various positions from Appeals Specialist for a government subcontractor to being a Disney Cast Member. But in every company I did the same thing eventually: I was a trainer.

During law school, I was a tutor and ran my own tutoring program.

I believe in teaching for various learning styles using tactical, audio, and visual methods of teaching.

Criminal Justice

I worked in the Violation of Probation Division of the State Attorney’s Office of the Ninth Judicial Circuit of Florida located in the Booking and Release Center of the Orange County Jail. During this internship, I had the opportunity do vast amounts of work on scoresheets, background checks, and various types of research both in the office and during arraignments in the courtroom. This experience exposed me to a unique area of criminal law and courtroom experience.
I had the opportunity to extern with Judge Jenifer Davis of the Ninth Judicial Circuit Court of Florida. This experience exposed me to a diverse set of legal issues ranging from child sex crimes to racketeering.

Law

I am a licensed attorney in the state of Florida. I graduated from Florida A&M University College of Law in 2012 with honors. Since graduating, I have worked as a bar exam tutor. I also run two blogs (LawSchoolSuperhero.com and BarExamSuperhero.com) that have been featured on other websites. I am also a guest blogger about the bar exam for Ms. JD and other tutoring companies. During law school, I interned for the State Attorney of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, I was a law clerk in Court Administration of the Ninth Judicial Circuit, and for a solo practitioner in civil county court. Prior to law school, I worked for a government subcontractor on Medicare appeals.

Public Speaking

I've worked in various positions from Appeals Specialist for a government subcontractor to being a Disney Cast Member. I was a tutor and leader of two organizations in law school. But in every place I've gone to school and every place I've worked, I did the same thing eventually: I was a trainer.
As a trainer and a tutor to large groups of students, I have spoken to groups as small as 3 to groups as large as 90. During this time, I have gone from being terrified of talking to groups to learning the ins and outs of such a task.
I have also taken courses in Trial Practice and pre-trial practice where I was trained in public speaking in courtroom-type environments and depositions.

Writing

I received my J.D. from Florida A&M University College of Law in 2012 with honors. Throughout law school I was required to write many papers, memos, and briefs in order to receive my degree. I received my B.A. in Writing from The University of Tampa in 2007. Since law school, I have been running two blogs that have been featured on many websites and I have guest blogged for Ms. JD and other tutoring companies.
