Hello. I've spent my professional life in communications, specializing in public relations and media relations.

I've worked at CBS, Burson-Marsteller (the large public relations agency) as a broadcast media specialist, as president of Michael Klepper Associates in New York, and as president of my own New York-based agency, The Media Relations Group. I practice public relations today as an independent contractor. My skill sets include writing (news releases, speeches, pitch letters, Op-Ed pieces (Opinion Editorials for major newspapers); publicity (positioning a story and "selling" it to producers and editors at major media outlets); speech and media interview training.

I can be helpful with practically any of your writing needs (including resumes and pitch letters to employers, news releases, by-lined articles, Op-Ed pieces), and positioning yourself in writing or in-person for interviews. I can also help you prepare for a speech, or an interview on radio or television. Last but not least, I can support you with the improvement of your reading skills - or study skills as they relate to various subjects including English, History, etc.

I'm non-judgemental, friendly and compassionate, and my goal is to help you improve your skills and help you achieve your goals.

Best to you,
Mike S.

American History

I've been interested in American history since college. I read books on the subject regularly, particularly the lives of American presidents. The presidents who interest me the most are: George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Abraham Lincoln, Theodore Roosevelt, Woodrow Wilson, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Dwight Eisenhower, John F. Kennedy, Lyndon Johnson, Ronald Reagan, and Bill Clinton.

Elementary (K-6th)

I'm a writer and communicator, with expertise in speech writing, news release writing, public speaking, and communicating stories to major media - both verbally by phone and in writing.

I have been a communications expert, specializing in public and media relations, writing (speech writing, news releases, by-lined articles) and speech and media interview training, for the past 25 years. Communicating clearly and effectively is the bedrock of what I do.

I'd be pleased to help you as an English tutor! - Mike

Government & Politics

I've been a "student" of Government and Politics since college, particularly the U.S. Constitution - which I regard as the greatest document of governance ever written in human history. The Constitution, like our country, is evolving, and the Bill of Rights and Amendments to the Constitution reflect that evolution, especially the evolution of human rights.

As one who believes that words, and the organization of words, are the primary relayers of meaning, I also believe that proper grammatical expression is a cornerstone of that communications ability.

When I worked as a writer at CBS Audience Services, where we would write letters to viewers who were making inquiries about CBS programs and policy, I learned that proofreading was essential in communicating clear and concise responses to those viewers.

I continue to believe that proofreading is essential, and that properly executed, it creates a perception of professionalism.

Public Speaking

I've been a TV interview trainer and speech coach for the last 25 years (along with being a publicist. With respect to helping prepare for a speech, or for public speaking, my intention and goal is to help my student communicate clearly, with proper projection of voice and proper inflection - and also to make sure that content contains imagery and creative imagination that will capture the audience's imagination - one that tells compelling stories - and one that has some humor. I listen to my client's vision and sense of mission, what he/she wants to achieve with the speech, get a feel for his/her style and help him/her render a meaningful and effective delivery that will speak with my client's voice but in an enhanced way.

I have been a communications specialist for 25 years, and my ability to write, read and communicate a story to others (often the media) has been essential to my task.

In helping others read, I begin with simple, interesting stories, exercise patience with them, and review their comprehension of the material every few sentences. It's very important to give them a winning experience!

Accurate spelling is a cornerstone of clear, concise and responsible communication.

Study Skills

In my own educational experience, I've learned that studying as preparation for courses or tests is crucial to academic success. In past tutoring over the years, I've worked with students in study skills, helping them become clear about focusing on what was most important, in terms of books relevant to those courses, and notes they took during class.

A full, rich vocabulary enables the communicator to express him or herself with precision and the nuances that fine-tune meaning and comprehension!

I am a writer and publicist, and on the writing side, have expertise in the writing of speeches, Opinion Editorials and web copy. The range of my writing skills are wide; and I would be pleased to assist you improve those skills. I am patient, and friendly with a real desire to help people!
