I have many years experience tutoring students from elementary school age through adults. I find that most difficulties are caused by unknown gaps or weaknesses in previous education, this is especially true in math and the sciences that build upon knowledge. Other important aspects are having a through knowledge of the specialized language or "jargon" associated with a subject, and proficiency using in the tools, such as computers and the Internet. I can help you with all of this and will be happy to direct a student to the best resources for the job.
Sciences are taught as discrete subjects, in a sequence that was chosen based on alphabetical order. This is why you will find a quick summary of chemistry and physics at the beginning of your biology text. Science courses also assume knowledge of mathematical procedures that you may not be familiar with using in a "scientific" way. Science even has a particular grammar and method of writing that is so different that your word processing software will mislead you. I graduated with honors in biology and I can help you succeed, too.
I especially enjoy helping students preparing for, or going through transitions like adults returning to college or trade school and middle school students or those beginning their high school careers. These students may have had different goals in the past that left them not as well prepared as they would like to be.
For concerned parents, I have passed Lee County Level 2 background clearance that allows me to tutor in the public schools and can show my badge.
