Greetings! My name is Carla and I am an English tutor (among other things). I received a B.A. from FAU (Florida Atlantic University) in English with a concentration in writing and rhetoric and I received another B.A. (from FAU as well) in Public Communication with a minor in History. For lack of a better word, i'm a bit of nerd- which I'm fine with- thank you very much! I firmly believe in continuing education and it is my goal to instill these values in my students.
I currently tutor around the south Florida area already and would be more than happy to provide sources of reference. Many of my clients I have had for over a year now and I'm happy to say, will continue to be for quite some time. I have been teaching SAT/ACT prep since 2011 to students all over the south florida area, including students from (but is not limited to): American Heritage, Pines Charter, Western High School, St. Thomas, and St. Gregory,
There is nothing you can throw at me (English-wise) that I cannot tutor, including SAT/ACT/SSAT/PSAT writing and reading techniques, grammar, or even proofreading college essays. I'm well versed in literary criticism, symbolism, and creative writing.
I also tutor history as well (American/Latin American/European) with a heavy emphasis on World War II and Nazi Germany.
And, oh yes! I have ADHD myself. I have been diagnosed since I was in 6th grade and have undergone years of training in studying and effectively managing the ADHD while making it work in my favor. I would be more than happy to spread the love and share my knowledge with you or your child as well.
I also tutor Adobe Lightroom! I have been a professional photographer since 2007 and have worked for Livenation, The Fillmore (house photographer), The Miami Heat (fan fare) and freelance weddings and events. I have been using Lightroom since 2007 and have the most updated version of Lightroom 3. If photography is your thing, I would be more than happy to show you how to work the entire program so that you may " tweak" the lighting in your photographs to perfection!
