My name is Vanessa and I graduated with my Master's degree in History with a concentration in American History at American Public University. My interest or knowledge in American History is from 1945 to the present.
Currently, I am an Adjunct Professor of Humanities and History at a university.
I am a member of the Sigma Iota Rho (Gamma Omega chapter) International Relations Honor Society and the West Virginia chapter of Pi Gamma Mu Honor Society in Social Sciences. While attending community college, I had a chance to publish an article called, “Author discusses life, death in Shanghai.” It was about a woman who spent most of her life being tortured and beaten while living in China in the mid 1960’s. I have been a member of the American History Association since 2008.
I am currently working as a volunteer educator (docent) for a history center. At my job, I give visitors group (or individual) tours of the King-Cromantie House and the 1899 Replica of the first schoolhouse built in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. I love my job because I am educating people about how “The Venice of America” (Fort Lauderdale's nickname) became the city that it is today.
I enjoy tutoring in small groups or individually; however, I can also tutor by email. I would just need to know in advance. My meeting places for tutoring include the regional libraries throughout Broward County. I would like to tutor students from grades 9-12 and those who are in college or universities; however, I will consider middle school students.
My hobbies/interests include: volunteering, cooking (breakfast and desserts), traveling, attending concerts, bike and art shows, singing, going to the movies, history (of course!!), hiking and watching sports (preferably football). I am also trying to pursue an interest in photography.
