Experienced Effective Tutoring, Math Science Engineer, K-college

I have been tutoring students in Broward County since I moved here to marry my wife in 2006. I have been effective helping students improve their grades and raise their SAT scores. My students always feel comfortable working with me and many have told me that I explain things better than their other tutors. I tutor a variety of subjects including all levels of mathematics and most types of science from K-12 and college level engineering, chemistry, physics, mathematics, statistics and environmental science.

My full time job is as a high school science and mathematics instructor. At the high school level, I have taught AP Chemistry, AP Physics B, AP Physics C, AP Environmental Science, AP Calculus AB, AP Calculus BC, Physics (honors), Precalculus (honors), and Precalculus. At the college level, I have taught Chemical Engineering Thermodynamics and General Chemistry Laboratory.

Most of my tutoring students are high school students of all levels: AP, honors, and regular track courses. I have worked on math with a few elementary students and I have had a few college clients in statistics, algebra, calculus, environmental science, physics and chemistry.

Each student I have worked with on SAT math skills has seen a substantial increase in their score beyond that expected from just practicing. My own son improved 140 points in math from the first to the second SAT (his verbal score also increased by 60). I also have helped students realize that the ACT science section is not at all beyond their abilities and is actually very easy if they know how to read data.

I have even helped a student with microbiology for which I have no expertise at all just by helping the student to understand what was presented in the textbook and class notes. My instruction methods vary depending on the needs of the student, but what is constant is helping students find information and figure things out for themselves. I make certain after I demonstrate a concept that the student can then explain it in their own words.

Physics

I have a Ph.D. in chemical engineering. Physics was one of my strongest subjects. I currently teach high school AP and honors physics. I have also worked with college students on general physics.

GRE

I scored well on the GRE and I know I can be helpful to someone who needs to improve on the quantitative section. I may also be of some help on the verbal.

Physical Science

I teach chemistry, physics, and environmental science. I have a strong understanding of most of the topics presented in a physical science class. I work well with high school and college age students. All of the students I have tutored have achieved their goals and improved their grades.

Probability

I teach probability to my precalculus classes and I have tutored probability for statistics students. I enjoy probability problems and most of my students do as well.

Specific topics I can help you understand in probability include: counting, permutations, combinations, probability, odds, circular permutations, compound events, venn diagrams, conditional probability and binomial events.

PSAT

I have experience working on SAT preparation with high school juniors and seniors. My expertise is in mathematics but I also am effective explaining grammar, reading and sentence completion. Students that are serious about maximizing their SAT scores or in competing for a national merit scholarship should begin preparing in 9th grade.

ACT Math

ACT Science

My approach to the ACT science test is that most students can do very well if they get past the intimidation factor. This is accomplished through familiarity with the format of the test and understanding that most of the questions do not require specific advanced knowledge of the subject area of the reading.

Linear Algebra

I earned an A in Linear Algebra as an undergraduate, and I am very familiar with the topics commonly presented in this course including linearization of functions, matrix operations, matrix equations, optimization, vectors, and calculus applications. Organic Chemistry
