I have taught in many situations from county jail to juvenile corrections to middle school to third grade. I enjoy what I do and by the time I have finished helping you learn your education will not be a drag anymore. Your grades will improve and so will your opportunity for a better life. I have seen this happen to some of my students. First they learned how much they could already read. They practiced and became proficient in reading. They then moved into math and word problems. They passed the GED and even went on to college. It is not a dream; it can all be real. You just need to make the choice. I prefer to either meet my students at their house or a public library. If neither of these places works, then let's come up with a good learning location.

My certification from college is Elementary Education K-8 all subjects.I hold certification in the state of Florida for K-6 all subjects.

I taught 7th grade and 3rd grade self contained classroom in Paterson, NJ.
I taught individualized math in a juvenile detention setting for over 10 years.
I taught individualized math in a juvenile offenders corrections facility where all students were convicted of a felony, maximum security, and all students needed extra hands on help.

Elementary Science

During my teaching career: I taught self contained 3rd and 7th grades which included teaching science.
I taught science to students in a juvenile corrections facility, the grades were intermixed so I taught all levels of science through biology.
I have home tutored several local students in science for the past 4 years, Grades 3 through 9.

English

I hold a minor in English. During my teaching career I was in charge of the English program at the Juvenile Detention Center in Michigan. We followed the state mandated curriculum for English. We earned state honor for our outstanding educational program. 10 years of teaching.
I also taught ABE, GED and ESL to adults in a night school setting for 3 consecutive years.

Grammar

I hold a minor in English. During my teaching career I was in charge of the English program at the Juvenile Detention Center in Michigan. We followed the state mandated curriculum for English. We earned state honor for our outstanding educational program. I have 10 years of teaching experience. I also taught ABE, GED and ESL to adults in a night school setting for three consecutive years. I am tested and certified by the State of Florida as an English teacher grades 6-9.

Prealgebra

Having taught individualized math for over 10 years in a juvenile detention center I am qualified to test and find where a student is deficient in math.
I also taught 3rd grade math in a self contained classroom setting in Paterson, NJ.
The college I attended was originally a teachers college. My coursework entailed math methods and materials, along with visiting and teaching in an elementary school setting for 16 weeks. The teaching was supervised by the classroom teacher who helped train us college students by giving us ideas for making math a positive learning experience for all the students in the class.

TOEFL

I also taught ABE, GED and ESL to adults in a night school setting for 3 consecutive years.
Because TOEFL is a Test Of English as a Foreign Language, where knowledge, usage, reading, listening and explaining in English are measured. I can help a student by giving one-on-one assistance with real verbal feedback as the student works on acquiring refined English skills.

Vocabulary

My teaching career began by teaching GED in a county jail. I was responsible for the students in English which included working on vocabulary skills and being competent when being tested on the GED. I wrote lessons geared to each students skills which increased the word comprehension. I worked on root words, prefix, suffix, synonyms, antonyms, nouns, pronouns, verb and verb tenses, adjectives, adverbs and other parts of speech. The lessons increased the students' basic vocabulary skills. I carried my teaching throughout my entire career. Teaching math words and science word as part of learning in math or science. If a student has no basic vocabulary they will become frustrated and not progress inn a positive way.

Writing

During my teaching career I instructed students in writing...whether in language arts class or math class or science. The student was given a basic outline to fill in with details and then use the outline to write an essay. I also used webbing and story maps. I showed students how they could write down ideas and then change their ideas into complete sentences following a plan. Story introduction, middle fact, ending would lead to a complete essay or notes from a reading in science, social studies, or even notes from a math class. Most of my teaching was done in a correctional setting where the students were students that had never done well in school because they were either problem students or they needed too much help from a teacher and the teacher didn't have the time to really help.
