I just finished up my first year of medical school at Florida Atlantic University, and will be starting back up for the second year in August of 2014.

About me: I went to Suncoast Community High School, and graduated with an IB diploma in 2000. I graduated with over a 4.0 and was a National Merit semi-finalist. I took the SAT II in writing, scoring a perfect 800. I also have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring math subjects including algebra, geometry, trig, and precalc. If you are looking for a math tutor, I might be a good fit for you! I am also competent in and passionate about many other subjects, which you will see listed in my profile.

After graduation from high school I went to the Air Force Academy.

After graduation from the Air Force Academy in 2004, I went on to join the United States Peace Corps and served in Zambia from 2006 - 2008. In Africa I lived in a hut in a small village where I taught preventive health care to Zambian villagers.

Since returning from the Peace Corps, I've tutored in various subjects to students of different ages, always enjoying myself!

Feel free to contact me at any time with any questions about availability!

Test Preparation:
ACT Math,
PSAT,
SAT Math

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ACT Math

The ACT math is very similar to the SAT math, with the exception of the inclusion of trigonometry on the ACT. It's easier than the SAT but faster paced - you have about a minute per question.

Algebra 1

About 90% of what I tutor is Algebra I, Algebra II, and Geometry. Many students seek help with these math subjects. I tutor home-schooled students, FLVS students, and students that go to local high schools and middle schools including Wellington High School, Palm Beach Central High School, Dreyfoos, Suncoast, and J.I Leonard.

Algebra 2

I tutor more math than anything else. Many students seek help with Algebra and Geometry, and I find that most students are bright and capable but find themselves in classes so large that they can't ask questions, or with teachers who don't communicate in the way the students wish for. I tutor home schooled students, FLVS students, and students that go to local high schools and middle schools including Wellington High School, Palm Beach Central High School, Dreyfoos, Suncoast, and J.I Leonard.

Geometry

About 90% of what I tutor is math. Many students seek help with these math subjects. I tutor home schooled students, FLVS students, and students that go to local high schools and middle schools including Wellington High School, Palm Beach Central High School, Dreyfoos, Suncoast, and J.I Leonard.

Precalculus

Many students are intimidated by this class, but it's really not as bad as it seems! I have years of experience tutoring all levels of math up through trig. Contact me if I can help you get through Precalculus.

PSAT

The PSAT is a very important test. Not only does it give a person some indication of how he will do on the all-important SAT, but it also determines his eligibility for the National Merit Scholarship. The good news is that there are plenty of resources to help you prep for the test, so the sooner you get started - the better!

SAT Math

I have several years of experience tutoring SAT Prep. For some great books to help you along, try the following:

The College Board's SAT Study Guide (there are two versions and both are good - one has 7 practice tests and the other has 10).

Up Your Score - This is a hilarious book that is particularly helpful with writing and vocabulary.

Math 800 - For students aiming for really high scores, Math 800 is the ticket. It's got problems that are harder than any you'll see on the real test. By practicing these, you're sure to see your math score improve.

Call me if I can help!

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is one of the most feared math classes. Many students feel like they are learning a whole new language when they approach sines, cosines, tangents, secants, co-secants, and cotangents. Don't worry, though - with a little bit of help I've seen many students who feel lost become quite confident working with trig! From graphing trig functions to proving identities, a little bit of help goes a long way in this subject.

As parents and educators, we should not be surprised by the recent article from the Washington Post excerpted below. We've seen the damaging effects that testing has had on our children, from lower self-esteem to increased anxiety. The Post reported the following figures collected from 8,000 parents in a NY state poll: According to the Post article: * 75% reported their child was more... read more

As the popularity of Apple technology soars, more educators are taking note and using it in the classroom. The iPad, specifically, has been receiving much attention as a great tool for motivating and engaging students, as well as easing teachers' jobs. Some pilot schools have even issued iPads to all students to asses the impact of technology integration on school performance. The best... read more

I recently discovered a list of universities that are recording their lectures and posting them on iTunes. The subjects range from philosophy to economics to calculus. So far, I've checked out Stanford's Historical Jesus course as well as Harvard's Mini Med School. I've found the lectures to be fascinating and am blown away that these very prestigious (very expensive!) schools are offering... read more
