Qualifications:
I earned my BS in Mathematics from Florida Atlantic University and a Master's of Science in Teaching from Florida Atlantic University. I also earned 27 credit hours toward a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from Georgia State University and I am currently working on a second master's degree in Bio-statistics at FAU. I am a former full-time professor at Broward Community College, Georgia State University, and most recently, Lynn University. I have over 15 years of teaching and tutoring experience at both the high school and university level.
Tutoring Style:
My teaching and tutoring style reflects my philosophy that mathematics has very little to do with memorization and knowing facts in order to answer a question; rather it is about understanding and applying rules, tools, and concepts to solve problems. Hence, it is not about knowing the answer, but about understanding how to figure out the answer! Which is why I don't just teach students the material, but I try my best to teach students how to learn the material as well. I also try to act more as a guide to help students figure things out on their own as much as possible rather than just "do it for them" or just "give them the answer." I believe true teaching and learning only takes place when the teacher empowers the student to do things for themselves rather than enabling them to be dependent on others to do it for them.
Ironically, by doing my job well enough, I hope to lose your business! The greatest compliment a student could give me is to tell me that they no longer need my services because they can now do it on their own without my help! If I can accomplish that, then your empowerment in my greatest success!
