I have taught Italian at Florida Atlantic University for two years. I also just got back from a summer program teaching in Venice. I do tutoring one-on-one but also in groups with up to 5-6 people. Groups usually work when students are already in intermediate level or higher and want to practice the language by reading and conversation. I use books which are also used by the schools such as Ciao, Insieme, Percorsi and so on. For the students who have some knowledge or have taken 1 or 2 Italian classes previously. I also use other sources such as magazines, newspapers and also movies. These other sources help the students not only to improve on their vocabulary, reading and listening on the correct pronunciation from different sources but also informs them on the culture of the language they are trying to learn. This method has shown to get their full attention but also makes them enjoy what they are learning not just because it is a requirement but because they really want to learn and love it.
