I have taught a wide rage of age groups including adults using various educational techniques to help minimize the anxiety and frustration "challenge" sometimes brings to learning. Part of my focus with any student's learning is listening to their needs and addressing where their struggle exists. My strategy toward successful learning is breaking concepts into smaller parts so maximum understanding is done before moving onto additional material. This usually involves drill setting, application understanding and mastery of performance. By doing this a student's self-esteem can be built to take on new challenges. I believe there is a direct relationship between one's self-esteem and success in any subject learned and mastered. To conquer this process, developing an educational plan must be part of the requirement.

My experience covers both the corporate world as well as elementary and high school. I am a state certified teacher in social sciences in middle and high school, as well as a technical trainer teaching productivity software to adults where the cornerstone towards learning is through hands-on experience. The central focus with all my students is sparking curiosity in the information they receive so their critical and application skills can create unique ways to trigger full conceptual understanding.

I have a BA in psychology from San Jose State University, and a MAEd in secondary education from University of Phoenix. I look forward to teaching and inspiring all students to be great in any subject I cover.

Elementary Education:

Corporate Training:

I teach both micro and macro economics by reviewing the basics, and then go into more depth based on the specifics of what a student is struggling in. I also cover some of the history behind economics as a foundation in understanding the overall subject matter. Each lesson plan is developed with the individual student's needs in mind according to that student's difficulties.

I handle English related courses based on the areas being covered. For spelling and vocab, this usually involves drilling and understanding definitions fluently. For literature and reading related work, I cover understanding the areas of theme, plot, who the main characters are and central focus points of view from what was read so maximum comprehension is addressed. For writing, I cover using words correctly in sentence structure, and how to clearly get one's ideas across based on knowing one's audience. Each individual student is unique and my approach with anyone is fully understanding where their difficulties are before moving forward with a comprehensive strategy.

Microsoft Excel

Covering all the basics of MS Excel as a spreadsheet and database program, and graduating to more complex functions such as formulas, charts, graphics, etc. My teaching approach is hands-on with the computer, and answering questions as we explore the different areas of MS Excel together. Where repetition on an area needs to happen I am happy to review. In the end, I will provide notes and resources so the complete lesson on MS Excel is easy to follow for future use.

Microsoft Word

Covering all the basics of MS Word as a word processor, and graduating to more complex functions such as macros, charts, graphics, etc. My teaching approach is hands-on with the computer, and answering questions as we explore the different areas of MS Word together. Where repetition on an area needs to happen I am happy to review. In the end, I will provide notes and resources so the complete lesson on MS Word is easy to follow where any question may arise in the future.

I teach psychology based on the unique needs of the student. This subject is very broad-based, and depending on what the student is struggling with, we will then focus on these areas. Basic psychological concepts are part of this process in addition to any specifics in this subject.

I teach reading by showing the basic steps of sounding out words, breaking sentence structure up, taking each paragraph in small bits and comprehension. By showing these steps, I help create a safe and anxiety-free environment so the student can master the reading skills necessary to be a successful reader. Within a short time, the student will gradually move forward from simple books to chapter-level reading. Homework is a continual part of this process so the important reading skills are not lost, and the students become comfortable with reading as part of their lives.

Study Skills

Good study skills are important in any subject. Having a BA in psychology and a MA Ed in secondary education, I know hard work, dedication, organization and continual practice are the basic elements toward earning good grades. This has translated positively for me in both my professional and personal life. Being successful in your own studies can happen too by looking at the material being studied and learning how to break information down into chucks, using memory strategies like mnemonics, working with note cards, highlighting key areas within reading passages and working with many other strategies to learn the basics of what good study habits are about. From practicing these techniques you can become successful in any subject area you are struggling with.

World History

I cover the specifics of what the student needs to know in AP History. The student tailors their own specific curriculum while I address those specifics. Being certified by the State of Florida to teach social sciences 6-12 will give a great amount of expertise to knowing AP History, in addition to teaching students at the AP level.
