Hello, my name is Mary. I want to share a few thoughts about teaching and learning.

I was a primary school teacher for 35 years. As an educator and mentor, I endeavored to infuse each day with activities that would inspire my students to learn. I believe the "joy of learning" can be inculcated through an enriching and creative curriculum. When children have the needed tools and encouragement, they eagerly explore, examine, evaluate and learn. They become proficient in thinking, reasoning and problem solving. These life skills are vital to a happy, productive life.

It is an honor, privilege and joy to help children acquire the joy of learning. They will use these success skills throughout their lives.

Elementary (K-6th)

I taught children in the primary grades for over 35 years. In my class the criteria of one subject was often the expected standard in other subjects. In other words, I expected my students to use proper grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, good penmanship and neatness at all times. My curriculum included projects in and out of the classroom.

Study Skills

When I was in college, a new program was offered to all incoming freshmen. This program included information on how to study, how to do research and how to perform successfully on tests. During my 50 years after college, I have honed and polished these skills to a fine art. I know how to do these well and I also know how to teach them to others.

Bible Studies

I studied the Bible with one of Jehovah's Witnesses for over a year before becoming baptized. I was a full-time pioneer minister for almost 5 years. I am still a minister and conduct Bible studies. I attend our weekly meetings at the Kingdom Hall and I am in the theocratic ministry school; we study the bible at every meeting. I do extensive research to prepare for our meetings. I love God's teachings and will always continue to learn the truth.

Sign Language

I am a member of our American sign Language Congregation in Spring Hill, Florida. I joined this congregation about a year ago. We use only American Sign Language to communicate at every meeting. I am a minister for Deaf people in our territory, which includes 3 counties.

Hard Of Hearing

I am Deaf, but for almost 6 years I was profoundly hard-of-hearing. I feel uniquely qualified to communicate with anyone, who has a hearing loss. I understand the problems and difficulties that you may experience. I believe my experiences will allow me to help people in this often frustrating situation.
