I am an experienced, patient math tutor. I have experience tutoring at a state college where I currently work, and I tutor college students regularly on a variety of math including Prep Math, Intermediate Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus Algebra, Calculus 1, Calculus 2, and Differential Equations. I also tutor high school students regularly. All students I have tutored have quickly progressed. In addition, I have my Associate in Arts degree, and graduated with honors, and I am currently pursuing a Bachelor's Degree in Math Education. I believe that patience, a sense of humor, and knowledge of the subject are most important in tutoring. I enjoy helping students and learning more myself every day.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

I tutor students in all levels of algebra, and I understand the concepts most students struggle with. I can help make clear the more abstract ideas that algebra presents, and I understand that it can be overwhelming. However, a down-to-earth explanation one-on-one, almost all students gain a greater understanding and see improvement in both grades and comprehension, and this is something I can provide.

Algebra 2

I tutor students in all levels of algebra, and I understand the concepts most students struggle with. I can help make clear the more abstract ideas that algebra presents, and I understand that it can be overwhelming. However, with a down-to-earth explanation one-on-one, almost all students gain a greater understanding and see improvement in both grades and comprehension, and this is something I can provide.

Differential Equations

I successfully completed a college course in Differential Equations. In addition, I regularly tutor students in Differential Equations at the college where I work as a math tutor.

Philosophy

Philosophy can be surprisingly mathematical. Many concepts are centered around logic, as well as critical thinking. I have taken college courses in philosophy and studied it on my own. It can be challenging at first because often many arguments and definitions are presented at once. However, I can help with prioritizing study time and helping the student to both remember the fundamental facts and gain a greater understanding.

Psychology

Psychology can be a challenge because it can be hard to remember who is associated with what experiment, for example. However, I can teach tips and techniques for both remembering and understanding the key points covered in a psychology class.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is certainly a very abstract area of math at first glance, however, there are many shortcuts and order within it as well that many textbooks don't teach. I can teach the inside tricks to help students both remember what they need to and understand it so it stays. There is less memorization required than it appears, and I can teach what is easier to derive, rather than the tedious task of pure memorization.
