Nancy B.

Hi, my name is Nancy and I am very excited to be a new tutor here on WyzAnt. I have been teaching prek4 (VPK) at a private institution here in Clermont for four years. I have a B.A. from Michigan State University, and I am a graduate student at UCF studying for my Master's in Elementary Education. I am not yet a fully certified teacher, however I am scheduled to take my exams this winter and will earn my certificate shortly thereafter. I love working with children in the primary grades, and I am most interested in helping students with reading/language arts and math skills. I have two school age boys of my own, so I have plenty of experience in helping with homework, and providing positive reinforcement and encouragement. I find that most students have the potential to learn anything, and often they just need a few small, consecutive successes in order to believe in themselves and build their confidence. This is half the battle! I also believe in applying concepts to real world situations, and employing hands on learning when/where applicable.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have been teaching pre-k4 for the past 4 years, and I am more than half way through my Masters in Elementary Education at University of Central Florida. In addition, I currently tutor Elementary SES students in reading two days a week for a nationally known tutoring company. I will be eligible for my state teaching certification as soon as I pass my scheduled exams this winter.

Study Skills

As a life long student with two children of my own, I certainly understand the importance of good study skills. There are four basic principles in teaching good study skills:

1) Homework should be a positive experience
2) Homework is a high priority.
3) Homework should be used to teach organization skills and improve learning skills.
4) Expectations should be set, and there should be logical and meaningful consequences for those that are not met.
