State Certified Teacher Elementary Education

I have recently moved to Clermont from S. Florida, where I taught reading to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th graders in a special reading program. I have taught all subjects for many years and left my teaching position at the end of November, because I sold my home and moved to this area to be closer to my family. I still have my professional teaching certificate with the state of FL., which expires in June of 2014.

I retired from teaching when I moved to this area and I am looking to continue to tutor. The schools in Palm Beach Co. have an after school tutoring program which I took taught for many years. I enjoy working one to one or in small groups with students. I especially enjoy helping young children who are struggling with reading. Having strength in reading skills at a young age prepares children for the testing skills they may need when entering the intermediate grades (4-6).

Reading

For the past 7 years I tutored reading in an after school program for grades 3-5. Before I left my school I was in charge of a special reading program for children grades 2-4. I worked in small groups with children who were over a year behind in their reading skills. I have also worked with adults who could not read and students from other countries to improve their reading and vocabulary skills.

ESL/ESOL

For the past 7 years I have worked with both children and adults who were learning English for the first time. I am a certified teacher, and have my endorsement from the state of Florida in ESL/ESOL.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am presently certified by the state of FL and NY to teach grades k-6. For the past 7 years I have taught grades 2-4 in the Palm Beach Co. School District. I can send my certification if requested.

Special Needs

I have taught special needs children in the past who were quadrapoligic and paraplegic. My first year of teaching I taught children who were wheelchair bound because of CP, Spinal Bifida, and MS. And children that were wheelchair bound due to accidents.

I have 12 post graduate credits in special education from Queens College in NY, and 15 post graduate credits in vocational rehabilitation, from FAU in Boca Raton FL.

Dyslexia

I taught in Palm Beach County for over 7 years. The past 3 years were "inclusion," classes which included ESE children. Many of my students were dyslexic, especially those who were 1 year or more behind in reading.
