I began my career teaching high school and college English and was then bitten by the "journalism bug." I became a newspaper and magazine journalist, winning awards and knocking everybody's socks off. Eventually I returned to my first love, education. As a writer, I promoted higher education in the public relations and marketing department at Palm Beach State College and Florida Atlantic University. Along the way, I often tutored high school students struggling with English--grammar, vocabulary, reading, and the most difficult of all: writing. Part of that tutoring involved preparing students for the SAT.
Tutoring high school students taught me something, too. I found that I have the ability to take a student's ideas about a topic and show them how to articulately express them in written words. I can make studying vocabulary words fun by telling stories you won't forget about a word's meaning. (Ask me about "anachronism.")
This year I published two novels on Amazon and a humorous cookbook. As the mother of a son and daughter, I learned how to be sensitive to their perspectives, and I bring that with me to every tutoring session.
