I am a Spanish and ESL teacher with twenty years of experience. I worked diligently to become an excellent Spanish language teacher. I am certified in Spanish in Pennsylvania. To begin my journey as a language teacher, I enrolled in the Latin American Studies Program of Temple University, which included a home-stay with a host family in the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico. While there, I immersed myself in the Spanish language and culture of Mexico. I enjoy sharing the photos, music, stories, and other artifacts that I’ve collected from that trip and over the years, with my students to give them a tangible understanding of Hispanic culture and traditions.
I have also had the opportunity to work with many different groups of students in my years of experience as an educator. I have implemented learning strategies to accommodate both special needs, gifted and at-risk students. All of my students enjoy the hands-on projects, group dialogues, and rubric system I use to assess their learning in my class. To stay abreast of changing teaching styles, I have involved myself in four main professional groups for foreign language educators, including the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.
As an educator, I have also advised students and provided career planning. Also, I have created and monitored individualized learning plans. Through my interaction with students, I have identified the need for special services and made the recommendation for implementation. I continue to advocate for students so that they are made aware of, and benefit from the services available to them. Plus, I have created presentations on numerous topics of students’ interest.
