Greetings students and parents! I live in West Chester, PA and work at an educational nonprofit. Previously, I taught history at a large public school near the southern tip of Texas. I have experience tutoring and administering the ACT as well as teaching history and college prep courses to students in one of the poorest counties in America. Some were gifted and required that extra push to excellence, while many others came from Spanish-speaking homes and needed help just understanding basic text. I'm still young, but I've seen it all! Coming from a small public school in rural Illinois that left me to my own devices, I had to develop my own study habits and methods that I now use in my tutoring. I was the valedictorian of my high school, a National Merit Commended Student, and an AP scholar with Distinction. I studied Humanities at Yale, which required wide-ranging coursework in literature, philosophy, theology, and history, and developed public speaking and debate skills in the Yale Political Union that guide the way I teach and communicate today.
The scores below don't lie about my knowledge base, but the real reasons to hire me are the intangibles: I bring an energetic yet patient personality to the table, a passion for getting students to think about big ideas, and a knack for writing and editing that can help your student soar.

AP Lit. and Comp- 5
AP Chemistry- 4
AP US Government- 5 (self-studied, as my school didn't offer the class)

I studied art history extensively in college in courses about Modernist British art, the Futurist movement, the Arts and Crafts movement, and the Philosophy of Architecture. My senior thesis was a comparison between the theory behind controversies in Byzantine art in the 9th century and abstract art in the modern era.
As a teacher I teach a "College Connected" class each Wednesday, in which I lead a small group of students through lessons on life expectations in college, differences between colleges, admissions and financial aid processes, and other topics related to college preparation and decision-making.
I started my own philosophical debating society in college and have engaged in public speaking in many different settings. As part of the political union in college I often gave impromptu speeches to over 300 audience members, usually with a distinguished guest such as a Congressman listening in.
I am a Yale graduate, valedictorian, and former teacher who was worked with students who are gifted, special ed, and even limited-English proficiency. I attended a low achieving public high school where I had very little guidance from teachers or counselors, requiring me to constantly develop my own methods of study, especially for languages and standardized tests. I am confident that I can teach any student the necessary skills to achieve in their coursework.
