I am currently teaching Algebra I and Physical Science 307 at Wilmington University, Wilmington, Delaware. I also tutor math (primarily Math, Algebra I and Praxis) for the University Student Success Center. I was a chemical engineer with DuPont for 33 years. My focus is always to try to make sure my students understand the basic fundamentals and do sufficient practice problems with the fundamentals to instill confidence and train their brains to think differently about the new subject matter they are trying to learn. Math skills are cumulative and must be practiced to develop proficiency.

My goal as a tutor is to try an many different learning techniques as possible to allow the student to understand the fundamental subject matter.

Algebra 1

I currently teach Algebra I at Wilmington University. The text used is Mathematics with Applications, 10th edition, Lial/Hungerford/Holcomb. Subject matter dealt with include:
Algebra and Equations, Graphs, Lines and Inequalities, Functions and Graphs, Exponential and Logarithmic Functions, Mathematics of Finance, Systems of Linear Equations and Matrices.

Chemistry

I have a B.S. degree in chemical engineering and teach Physical Science 307 (chemistry and physics) at Wilmington University.

Prealgebra

General subject matter covered: Addition/Subtraction, Multiplication/Division; Factoring and Lowest Common Denominator; Fraction Notation; Decimal Notation; Percent Notation; Exponential Notation and Order of Operations; Geometry; Word Problems.

Physical Science

I currently teach Physical Science 307 at Wilmington University. The text I use is Physics and Chemistry, 9th Edition, Bill Tillery. Focus areas are: What is Science?, Study of Physics (Motion, Energy, Heat and Temperature, Wave Motions and Sound, Electricity, Light), and study of Chemistry (Atoms and the Periodic Properties, Chemical Bonds, Chemical Reactions, Water and Solutions, Organic Chemistry).
