Hi. I've been teaching for twenty seven years and love it! I have two B.S. degrees; one in Elementary Education and one in Special Education. I also have a Master's degree in Elementary Education. I have taught every grade from first to sixth in New York City, Pennsylvania and Delaware, and am familiar with many reading, math and writing programs. I think learning should be fun! I also believe that, as the teacher, it is my job to come up with as many ways to teach a concept as is needed until your child understands it.
I am specially trained to work with children with ADD, ADHD, Asperger's and other learning differences and have done so successfully throughout the years. The special education programs in the Delaware Public Schools rely mostly on remediation. I know that the key to success for a child with special needs is not to treat them as if they're slow, but to teach them compensating methods so that they are able to perform as effectively as their classmates.
I began and headed up a Resource Room in a private school in Delaware when first moving here. However, I have done most of my teaching in a general class setting, mainstreaming special needs students with my other students.
I have also been a lead teacher, grade leader and teacher trainer in the NYC public schools as well as in the Christina School District in Delaware.
Let's talk and see if my experience matches your child's needs!
