Although I have no formal training as a chef, I have been cooking for myself and my family for 26 years, mostly American and Italian cuisine. I can teach basic cooking skills, as well as kitchen basics, i.e., how to stock a kitchen, how to plan menus with balanced meals, how to follow recipes, etc. I have participated in Type 2 Diabetes nutrition classes and Weight Watchers nutrition programs, and focus on healthy cooking and eating habits. My favorite TV cooking shows are "Worst Cooks in America," "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives," "Rachael Ray's 30-Minute Meals," "Chopped," "Iron Chef," and "Restaurant Impossible."
I have 5 years of experience with tutoring a Christina School District student in English Language Arts, from third grade to eighth grade. Our sessions included grammar, punctuation, spelling, vocabulary, proofreading, editing, writing, composition, essays, book reports, and reading comprehension. I also helped him with homework in all subjects and with study skills, time management (agenda), and organization (bookbag).
I have tutored students in the Christina and Colonial School Districts in ELA and math for more than five years. I teach lessons that include illustrations and examples based on the common core curriculum for the student's grade level and customize them for the student's learning style and pace. Then, I use worksheets for the student to practice problem-solving and to reinforce learning.
I have always used PCs with Windows-based OS and have experience navigating in Windows 98, XP, Vista, 7, and 8. I currently own a desktop PC with Windows 7 and a laptop with Windows 8. I have an intermediate to advanced proficiency level in using MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Picture Manager, Access, and Outlook), having used these programs daily in the workplace for several years. I frequently use MS Word, MS Excel, Gmail, Yahoo Mail, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer at home. I used to work in the customer service call center at a well-known cable TV/high speed Internet/digital telephone communications company and did basic troubleshooting of these systems.
I have successfully taught cursive writing and penmanship for over 5 years. We start by practicing making lines and loops. I demonstrate how cursive letters are formed. Then, I use alphabet capital letter and lower-case letter tracing pages for the student to practice the proper hand motions for each letter. I show the student how to connect the letters to write words and sentences. We then evaluate the cursive writing to make sure it has the proper slant and formations of letters in the proper space on each line. I also use themed, lined stationery to make the learning experience more enjoyable for the student.
I have over 10 years of experience at the intermediate to advanced level of proficiency, using Microsoft Outlook in the workplace and at home. I mentored my coworkers and taught others how to use Outlook email: how to change fonts and colors in email, how to send, receive, reply to, and track email, how to attach files to email. I also taught my coworkers how to set up meeting invites and effectively use the Outlook calendar for scheduling meetings and events. I also taught them how to maintain their Contacts list by adding, editing, or deleting contact information.
During the past five years, I have created and used PowerPoint presentations at the workplace in developing training modules for coworkers. I have also created PowerPoint presentations to share information with other groups. My skills include creating text boxes and inserting graphics and animation in slides and using special effects to transition from one slide to the next.
I have successfully used PCs with Windows-based Operating Systems for over 10 years, both in the workplace and at home. I have intermediate to advanced proficiency levels in Microsoft Suite, including MS Word, Excel, Access, Picture Manager, and in Outlook and other email and software programs. I have been a mentor for coworkers, teaching them how to use PCs with Windows OS with MS Office Suite. I have also taught others how to use web browsers and search engines.
I have 10 years of experience teaching time management, organizational, and study skills to students age 8 to 22 and adults of all ages. I teach students how to keep track of homework so assignments are completed and turned in timely. I teach them how to use checklists, color coding, and planning strategies to meet deadlines and ways to make sure they have everything they need to successfully complete each task and each school day. For adults, I teach skills to effectively manage their time to achieve balance between work and family life. During my senior year of college, I interned as a teaching assistant in the English Department.
